Cowboys QB Dak Prescott scouting wideouts ahead of NFL Draft

With seven picks in next week's NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys may decide to target a wideout, and if they do, quarterback Dak Prescott may help influence their choice.

Prescott told David Moore of the Dallas Morning News that over the weekend, he planned to review prospect tape provided by the Cowboys, who have asked for his input. Prescott added that he would likely "reach out" to a few receivers for chats after his film study.

On the surface, Prescott's involvement would lead to believe that his word on these prospects would carry some weight. However, the veteran signal-caller did not confirm how much sway he had, saying, "Maybe we take one, maybe we don't," when asked if he believes the Cowboys will ultimately choose a wide receiver.

Nevertheless, Prescott seems happy just to be asked.

"It does feel good to have input and know it's listened to," Prescott said.

The cupboard is not completely bare at receiver for the Cowboys. Earlier this spring, Dallas acquired veteran Brandin Cooks in a trade with the Houston Texans and later exercised the fifth-year option on CeeDee Lamb's contract, locking the Pro Bowler up through at least 2024.

After Michael Gallup, though, the Cowboys' depth chart severely lacks experience. Of the Cowboys' remaining wideouts, only Antonio Callaway (53) has more than three receptions in the NFL.

With a pick in all seven rounds next week, the Cowboys will have plenty of opportunities to nab a wideout upcoming. Most mock drafts have Dallas looking in another direction over the first two rounds. John Owing of Pro Football Focus, meanwhile, sees the Cowboys selecting WR A.T. Perry of Wake Foster with the 66th pick in the third round.
