TEAMS: Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Giants 24-17 Wednesday night at MetLife Stadium to kickoff the 2012 NFL Season. The first half was pretty dull, but the action picked up in the second half. That game was only the appetizer to the main course coming Sunday, but it was still great to have football back. Here are 5 things we learned from last night’s Cowboys-Giants game.
1. Rob Ryan is in Midseason Form
At least one of the Ryan brothers is still fun. I can’t wait until the Cowboys go 8-8 fire Garrett and promote Rob Ryan.
2. You will hear the name Kevin Ogletree more than you ever will again
That sound you hear is millions of fantasy football owners running to their computers and adding Ogletree. The Queens native has never scored a touchdown in his 3-year career, but he exploded for 2 touchdowns along with 8 catches for 114 yards. Is he Victor Cruz? Laurent Robinson? Probably neither, but it’s fun to think he’ll save your team after he got too trashed on draft day.
3. Jerry Jones Has Someone to Wipe His Glasses
Reportedly, the man is Jones’ son-in-law. I think my new goal in life is to be successful enough to have someone wipe my own glasses. Just a total power move.
4. Tom Coughlin May or May Not Have Made a Rookie Cry
After an early fumble, Tom Coughlin gave an earful to rookie RB David Wilson on the sideline. If you look closely at the picture, it appears that there’s a tear rolling down his cheek. I wonder how many guys, rookie or not, Coughlin has made cry over the years. At least 10, right? I’d take the over and wouldn’t think twice.
5. The Replacement Referees Didn’t Suck
What??? How is that even possible? After all the media blasting the scab refs, these guys didn’t totally suck. I’ve been saying that they will be fine all preseason while everyone else thinks the end of the world will happen (except Pete Prisco and Jimmy Traina) and I know its only one game, but they came through on a big stage. If you had no idea that real refs were locked out, you couldn’t tell these guys were replacements. Let’s hope they don’t screw up big time on Sunday and make me look like a fool.
