Yesterday, OLB Shawn Crable was cut once again from the Patriots. It marked the second time this year that Crable had been cut. He was cut as training camp was getting underway for failing a physical, then was brought back to the team on the practice squad, and then he was promoted to the active roster. He played in the Steelers game and had half a sack. Apparently, his effort just wasn’t there consistently and he was let go. In his place, the Patriots re-signed OLB Pierre Woods. Woods was primarily a special teamer during his previous stint in New England but played some significant snaps at OLB due to the lack of depth the past few years. He was released on cut down day at the end of training camp and had been working as a groundskeeper at the University of Michigan before being called back to the Pats.
“I didn’t see anything coming. I was very surprised,” Woods said about returning to the team.”It feels great to be back. Everybody accepted me, I’m happy to be back, it’s an opportunity and I’m going to make the best of it. I’m ready to work.”
Woods’ role will likely be the same as it was before he was originally released. He will play special teams, something he excels at, and see spot duty on defense. Nothing like diving into the Patriots-Colts game to get re-acclimated with I suppose.
