Former NFL wide receiver and recent Hall of Fame inductee Cris Carter seems to always have something to say when it comes to the receiver position in the NFL. Making his feelings known about current star receivers such as Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald . But with yesterday’s trade of Percy Harvin from the Vikings to the Seahawks, one might think that Carter had some interesting insight on the trade. And per the the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, he didn’t disappoint. “I think the organization did the right thing,” Carter said. “I’m not surprised, given the situation with him not being happy and there being so little chance of a contract extension for the type of money he wants. So they’re better off, especially with a young quarterback, trading Percy and getting something for him compared to going through the season rolling the dice.” Carter then went on to praise the Vikings for getting multiple draft picks for the talented, yet troubled receiver. “Chicago got an elite receiver in Brandon Marshall and it only cost them two third-round picks,” Carter said. “So I think the Vikings did well. And they’re able to keep their salary cap intact rather than paying $11 million to $13 million a year to a guy that you don’t know how much he’s going to play. With Percy’s style, he’s going to get hurt. And don’t forget, the Vikings also had a lot of success without Percy at the end of last season.” It is an interesting take from a person who obviously knows the position very well. I think what the Vikings ultimately do with the draft picks will be the real barometer of how well they did in this trade. With the depth in this draft and now two first round picks, they certainly have the opportunity to strengthen their franchise.
