The Cowboys defeated the Vikings tonight 23-17, making the Vikings fall to a 1-2 record this preseason. Normally I would be upset, but it is only the preseason.

I still saw a lot of good things tonight, both from our offense and defense. Adrian Peterson ran wild in the first half, finishing the night with 14 carries for 81 yards. Donovan McNabb had a good game tonight as well, his key play being a 49 yard touchdown pass to Bernard Berrian. McNabb did throw an interception, but it was a deflected pass that ended up in the hands of Cowboys FS Gerald Sensebaugh.

I felt the defense put pretty good pressure on the Cowboy’s quarterbacks for the most part, including a couple sacks. Cedric Griffin stood out to me tonight, showing by his hard-hitting tackles that both of his legs are perfectly healthy.

Christian Ponder had an opportunity to produce a game-winning drive in the final minutes, and despite making a few good passes, they clock ran out before the Vikings could get one more play off after rookie TE Allen Reisner failed to get out of bounds after a nice reception inside the redzone with under 15 seconds left on the clock.

The Vikings play next Thursday night to wrap up the preseason. Most of the starters are not expected to play, but a lot of roster spots will be on the line, because the 2nd and 3rd stringers will have plenty of playing time.
