Dallas Clark along with his wife's family are proud operators of a small winery in Iowa:
In 2005, Dallas Clark, a native of Livermore who now plays in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, was in Algona with his wife, Karen, helping to renovate an old building on Phillips Street.
They saw the old Chicago & North Western rail depot across the street.
“It was in pretty sorry shape,” said Clark’s father-in-law, Steve Larson.
It had been vacant for 15 years. Windows were broken and pigeons were living inside.
But Clark could see it was a great old building, and said, “If we can, let’s save it,” Larson said.
Several years later, Clark bought the depot and renovations began.
The business, named The Train Wreck Winery, began selling wine by the bottle on Dec. 20 — just in time for people looking for last-minute Christmas gifts.
