Dallas dropped 4 of their last 5 games, including a 14-31 loss to the Giants that bounced them from the playoffs. Dallas fixed one of their major problems last season, the offensive line (although it could have been better by moving Colombo to guard and upgrading two positions with Smith). Dallas also found out their receiving corps is the DEEPEST in the league, they are set at running back, and John Philips is a number 2 (that's playing like a number 1). On the defensive side of the ball, the personnel needs work. Sean Lee is one of the best inside linebackers in the league, but James, Brooking, and Carter are a huge liability; but this is their number 3 priority. The D-line needs to see Ratliff moved to DE, and then getting a NT (350lbs plus) in the draft or FA; but this should be the Cowboys number 2 priority. The number 1 priority...the secondary!
Cortland Finnegan
Dallas is missing TWO pieces that make them a defensive juggernaut, a secondary.....and SWAGGER; Cortland Finnegan has both! Starting with his skill, Finnegan is the top free agent corner. Finnegan is a quick, athletic corner who excels in bump and run. On the flip side Cortland Finnegan has been called the 'bell cow' for the Titans defense and voted the dirtiest player in the NFL. With all of the corners being hurt and the safeties being the worst in the league, Dallas needs a MASSIVE 4 man shake-up. However if Dallas can get Finnegan, they can move Terrance Newman to free safety (fixing 2 of the 4 problem positions).

With Rob Ryan taking a injury plagued and talent deficient defense to middle of the road in points and yards, Dallas would have won the division if they could have locked down Nnamdi Asomugha or Jonathan Joseph; but 2012 is round 2. In a base defense, the man blitzing scheme Rob Ryan runs will have three guys on the field that can cover (Finnegan, Jenkins, and Newman); four if Allen Ball adds bulk and moves to Strong Safety (fix number 3 out of 4). If Jenkins can find a way to stay healthy (fix number 4 out of 4), Jenkins-Finnegan could turn out to be a top 5 corner tandem; which will really help Rob Ryan and his ultra aggressive defense flourish.

Cortland Finnegan is the ONE key to the Cowboys 2012 season.
