The long snapper for the San Diego Chargers, David Binn, has been placed on the Injured Reserve today with a tore hamstring. He tore the hammy while trying to run down Dexter McCluster. At least we know someone was going all out to try and catch that guy! Binn was the last member of the Chargers from the Super Bowl team from 194. He will be replaced by long snapper James Dearth. Dearth was earlier released by the Jets and was performing similar duties with them.
I know this won’t make the news like the injuries to Ryan grant of the Packers, but this is a significant injury for the special teams. Binn has been part of the team for 16 seasons and was named as a special teams captain for the first time this season. You never would get a bad snap out of him and now the kickers will have to work with a new long snapper for the first time in their careers.
I knew I should have started practicing my long snaps. I could have tried out for that position!
