Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post believes veteran quarterback David Garrard will end up not making the Miami Dolphins 53-man roster.

“At quarterback, you’ll notice a glaring omission from the depth chart: David Garrard. That’s not a mistake. It’s not looking good for Garrard to make the roster now that he’s out at least another three weeks following knee surgery.

“The big issue with Garrard is that, as a vested veteran, his entire $2.25 million salary becomes guaranteed if he’s on the Week 1 roster. If Ryan Tannehill continues to play well and grabs the starting job, it makes Garrard more expendable, especially with a healthy Matt Moore as a solid backup. Plus, with Garrard’s injury history – he hasn’t played a game since 2010 – it’s hard to see the Dolphins guaranteeing him his salary when he’s no certainty to even play a snap this year.

“More likely, the Dolphins will reach an injury settlement with Garrard and release him, and second-year pro Pat Devlin, who has held his own this camp, will slide into the No. 3 quarterback spot. The biggest reason to keep Garrard would be if Tannehill looks awful during the rest of the preseason, but so far he has looked very good,” wrote Volin.

I can definitely see Garrard not making the Dolphins’ final roster.  Matt Moore is a viable quarterback even though he hasn’t looked good in practice and rookie Ryan Tannehill might be ready to start sooner rather than later.

The real reason the Miami Dolphins released Chad Johnson.

Because the Miami Dolphins cut Chad Johnson within 24 hours of his arrest on domestic abuse charges this weekend, one can conclude that the decision was was simple cause and effect. Not so fast. The decision may have been based on other actions. If Michael Vick, Plaxico Burress, and Brandon Marshall can get jobs with an NFL team after committing serious crimes, so can Chad Johnson...

The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders Like it in the Rain

The Miami Dolphins are the focus of this year's Hard Knocks on HBO and the show, at least through two episodes, has been pretty entertaining. I'd be greatly remiss if I didn't share this gif I made of the Dolphins cheerleaders urging their team on through the rain. This might be my favorite gif I've made yet.

Friday NFL Training Camp Notes

Ryan Tannehill will start the Dolphins' second preseason game Friday against Carolina. Clearly, the rookie's performance will be the most important factor in the competition for Week 1 starter, but the momentum seems to be moving in Tannehill's direction. The rookie has been impressive in camp, and looked good in his first preseason action. With the knee injury to David...

Johnson's release shown by 'Hard Knocks'

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Chad Johnson briefly lobbied in vain to keep his job when he was cut by Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin. The six-time Pro Bowl receiver failed to make the case, and after bidding Philbin farewell with a handshake, he walked out of the Dolphins' complex for good. The scene was captured on the latest episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks," which is...
