The New York Jets quarterback situation might have just become a bit clearer if we are to believe a tweet from Adam Schein of Sirius Radio Schein on Sports. According to Schein’s Twitter feed, he received a text from Garrard which almost sounded like he was set to retire from the NFL: Text from Garrard: “Having to call it quits. My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices. Limiting what I can do.” — Adam Schein (@AdamSchein) May 15, 2013 Garrard has not played a regular season down in the NFL since the 2010 season. He was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars just prior to the 2011 season, and signed with the Dolphins last offseason. But he never took the field for Miami after have arthroscopic surgery. He was released. The Jets signed Garrard on March 11, and was expected to compete for the starting job. If Garrard is indeed stepping away, that would leave the competition between Mark Sanchez and rookie Geno Smith. This might essentially save Sanchez his spot on the Jets roster. The Jets first OTA is scheduled for May 20.

Report: David Garrard Tells Teammates He’s Leaving the Jets

Steve Smith: “I wouldn’t let (Mark) Sanchez throw me a sandwich”

Photo credit: news.yahoo.com/AP Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is well-known throughout the league for not biting his tongue in most situations, but thankfully he can usually back it up on the field. With the Retirement of David Garrard it looks like Mr. Butt Fumble will once again start for the Jets

It looks like Mr. Butt Fumble himself Marc Sanchez will be the Jets quarterback once again next season. Now that veteran quarterback David Garrard has retired from the NFL because of a bum knee, Sanchez is the only veteran quarterback on the team. Although Tim Tebow and his band of evangelical followers are long gone, Jets fans will be chanting rookie Geno Smith’s name all season...

New York Jets De-Facto Quarterback Competition

The latest breaking news from the New York Jets compound is David Garrard's stay with the Jets is a brief one for this veteran QB, as he is not healthy enough to compete. Another Jet player fired his agent because he was drafted too low

We thought Geno Smith was out of his mind a couple of weeks ago when it was announced that he was parting ways with his old agents because he didn’t go #1 overall in last month’s NFL Draft. But at the same time, we could understand that if he was convinced by his agents that he would at least be a first round pick, he had every right to be upset with them. We don’t feel the...

Geno Smith Owes Dee Milliner a Word of Thanks

When the team cut Tim Tebow a lot of great material left with him, but then Geno Smith fired his agent and let his true diva-lishish colors show. He can deny it all day long, but there is nothing that will change the minds of the media and fans. Once the opinion is out there, it is out there until something else overshadows it. Thanks to fellow rookie Dee Milliner that might finally...
