On Thursday, recently-retired safety Brian Dawkins appeared on the Rich Eisen Podcast and touched on a variety of topics -- from why he decided to call it quits to the birth of his quirky nickname, "Idiot Man."

Of course, after 13 highly-productive seasons in Philadelphia, Dawkins also spoke of his former team and coach, Andy Reid, whom he feels should be on the hot seat this season.

"Yes, here's the thing," Dawkins said. "When you go out and you get some of the pieces that they got. That's telling the fan base something. Even coming into this year . . . some of the things they're doing this offseason, that's telling the fan base something. You then have to show . . . what are you as a coach."

If Reid was tuning in, it wouldn't be the first time he's heard such a thing. Seemingly throughout his tenure with the Eagles, Reid has faced similar pressure and criticism to bring the city its first a Super Bowl. As we know, he's come close -- really close -- but ultimately no cigar.

After stockpiling some of the league's best talent last offseason, and the 'Dream Team' was assembled, many thought it would finally be Philly's year. Suffice it to say the 2011 campaign was something of a letdown, which many, even former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell, thought would be Reid's downfall.

This offseason, however, the team has taken a different approach, opting to take care of their own guys rather than adding new cogs to the machine. Dawkins likes the direction they've went in, and thinks 2012 is put-up-or-shut-up time.

"This is the year to me that says . . . If there was a chance for this team go far it should be this year. You should know your team, you should know who can do what," Dawkins said.

It's hard to argue with anything Dawkins is saying here. Philadelphia's roster is chock full of talent and have playmakers on both sides of the ball. If they can put it together, the Eagles certainly are capable of making a championship run. But if they sputter, stutter, and falter like last year ... well, you wouldn't go far without hearing the word "housecleaning" in the City of Brotherly Love.
