Jason will be providing today's update, as he was at TC, himself.
Unlike yesterday, today was a beautiful day in Cortland NY, and a great day to be at Jets training camp.
Geno Smith continued to practice with the ones today, and hit Jeff Cumberland on a 30 yard out route. He continues to impress with his pocket presence, but seemed a bit hesitant at times looking for his receviers. Smith would have recorded an interception today, but DB Darrin Walls couldn’t hang onto the ball.
Chris Ivory was suited up and participated in positional drills, but did not take part in team activities. The Jets are being extremely careful with Ivory, who has a history of injury problems.
Kellen Winslow participated in team activities today, and looked excellent doing so. He will be a steal if he remains healthy for the Jets.
Mark Sanchez heard it from the crowd when his first pass on a series was intercepted by LB Josh Mauga. A series of boos trickled down from the bleachers toward Sanchez after the interception. Sanchez also placed multiple throws at the feet of his receivers. Not what he needs to do to win the starting job.
Chad Spann and John Griffin were making good use of their reps at RB today. Both looked good, and Spann demonstrated his elusiveness and motor, breaking tackles and fighting for extra yardage.
Antonio Cromartie and Braylon Edwards continue to be great role models for the younger players. During DB and WR drills, both were heard shouting encouragement to the rookie players on the field. It’s great to watch them take roles as veteran leaders on the team.
The offensive and defensive line had some words with each other during line drills, each group jawing at the other during drills. One of the more vocal of the group was 3rd year player Muhammad Wilkerson, who’s sure to have a great year on the line this year.
