Down and Distance:
The New York Jets rookies continue to make the news, and not in the best ways. Jets second round selection Geno Smith parted ways with his agency, Select Sports, after he was reportedly upset for not being selected in the first round. Now the Jets first round selection, Dee Milliner, fired his agency Impact Sports, and his lead Agent Tony Fleming, stating he was disappointed that he did not go in the top 5 picks. This transaction occurred just before the business week concluded Friday.
Milliners former agent released this statement: “I know that everything was done to ensure that Mr. Milliner would be drafted as high as possible,” Fleming said to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday, “Dee was the first cornerback selected, and he was drafted ninth overall to the New York Jet. This is a tremendous accomplishment. I wish Mr. Milliner future success in his professional career.”
To me this is just a load of garbage. There is no denying your talent, but the fact that you are willing to fire your agent just because you weren’t drafted where many pundits expected you to go is an unfair assessment of your talents, nor is it your agencies fault. None of the teams in the top 5 felt that, after watching your film, and interviewing you that they would take you then. Some of those teams didn’t even need a player from your position in those top 5 selections. This shows immaturity on Dee Milliners part, as it does on Geno’s behalf.
The Alabama Alumni is expected to replace Revis Island, playing opposite of Antonio Cromartie. The guy has talents beyond comprehension and I expect him to go far in his career, but his maturity is in question now.

Geno Smith has been a quick study when it comes to learning how to handle the intense media presence that envelopes the New York Jets.
Smith provided a shining example of how not to deal with the media during the week preceding the 2013 NFL draft.
So much so that his mouth and the fingers that typed some ill-advised Tweets may have cost him first-round money.
HE'S NO JOE NAMATH
Incoming rookie quarterback Geno Smith reported that he was "in trouble" with Jets brass for guaranteeing the team would make the playoffs.
The Turn On The Jets 12 Pack is back, with an edition focusing solely on New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.
1. My pre-draft opinions of Geno Smith are documented here and here. I thought he was strong value at #39 and was happy the Jets didn’t use one of their first round picks on him or sacrifice any picks to move up for him in the 2nd round. Prior to the draft I wrote this...
Mike Goodson was signed to a free agent contract earlier this offseason, but after being arrested early this morning Goodson may never get a chance to play a snap for the Jets.According to News 12 New Jersey, Goodson was in a car with his friend who had stopped his vehicle on route 80 in Denville. Goodson's friend, Garant Evans, was driving, but Goodson was apparently so intoxicated...
The bottom line is the Jets are one of the worst run franchises in the league. They were carrying six quarterbacks following the draft. There is no legitimate strategy for carrying that many. Add to that, they lost two of the better known back-ups for nothing in return.
This team has needs at QB, WR, RB, OL, DL and DB. They tried to address some of them in the draft...
Rich Cimini of ESPN New York writes that Geno Smith is the “preferred candidate” to win the Jets starting quarterback job.
Cimini adds that Smith will need to prove capable of running the team’s offense in order to stave off Mark Sanchez.
It’s no secret that Smith is the preferred option over Sanchez, but Cimini mentions that starting Geno earlier on could allow him...
New York Jets rookie QB Geno Smith has had, shall we say, some missteps from the time he was waiting in the green room of April's draft to about right now.
But for him, it's time to sit down and talk candidly and intelligently to the media, and show them that he's not what everyone is saying he is - cellphone-obsessed prima donna who thinks he's better than he really...
Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reports that the New York Jets “really wanted” to sign QB Brian Hoyer once he became available and before he ultimately joined the Browns.
With David Garrard surprising retirement announcement, the Jets had an obvious need at quarterback and still do.
The Browns would ultimately sign Hoyer to a two-year deal that included some guaranteed money...
The Jets mess is still somewhat messy.
York Jets running back Mike Goodson was taken into custody early this morning for drug possession and weapons charges, News 12 New Jersey confirmed Friday.
Sources say Goodson and a companion were found intoxicated in an SUV that was stopped along Route 80 in Denville.
Goodson was being taken to a hospital when authorities discovered marijuana...
Mark Sanchez has had more than his fair share of unfair scrutinizing. Does he deserve it sometimes? Yes, all quarterbacks do, but Sanchez gets bashed week in and week out, even for games he doesn’t blow. His case is more extreme than that of Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. I am far from a Jets fan, but while I do not like them, they are a team that has hope for the future.
It seems that no New York Jets prospect from this year’s draft is happy with where they wound up.
Following the lead of former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, who fired his representation, Select Sports, after he fell to New York in the second round of the NFL draft, Dee Milliner has fired Impact Sport, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. Milliner is expected to step in...
This was supposed to be the new drama-free New York Jets, with the departure of locker room cancer Darrelle Revis and evangelical savior Tim Tebow, the Jets carnival show was supposed to end. Instead the Jets brass decided to draft diva quarterback Geno Smith in the 2nd round of the draft and veteran quarterback David Garrard who was supposed to become the number one quarterback...
The New York Jets have yet to make a move regarding running back Mike Goodson, who was recently arrested on weapons and drug charges. One of Goodson's new teammates -- and no, not an anonymous one -- told the NY Daily News Saturday that Goodson won't be a Jet for long. "It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," offensive lineman...
Mark Sanchez has some unlikely detractors around the NFL (see: Steve Smith), but also at least one seemingly unlikely supporter. Plaxico Burress and Mark Sanchez didn’t exactly light it up in their lone season together with the New York Jets, but Plaxico Burress is still a supporter of the Jets quarterback.
Mark Sanchez needs to pull everything together if he is going to save his...
Newjersey.news12.com is reporting that Jets running back Mike Goodson was arrested early Friday morning on drug possession and weapons charges.Fantasy Spin:Goodson is in the mix with Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight to be the starting tailback. This problem could certainly make it tougher to win the spot for the former Oakland Raiders running back.
