Former Steelers quarterback Dennis Dixon is meeting with the Broncos.  Dixon would be brought in to fight for the number two QB job with Caleb Hanie.  The Broncos are looking for a solid back up to put behind Peyton Manning.  Dixon has been looking for a chance to start but it does not look like the market is heading that direction.  Taking a job behind Manning could be a bet by Dixon that Manning will not last the season.  That would give him a chance to start. If Dixon is signed by the Broncos he would be the third free agent to leave the Steelers this offseason.  William Gay has signed with the Arizona Cardinals.  Jamon Meredith has signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs.  The Steelers also have Jerricho Cotchery who has been shown interest by the Jets and Chiefs.  The Steelers have yet to sign a free agent.  Not even one of their own.

Where Will The Buck Eventually Stop With The Steelers At Linebacker?

The Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with veteran linebacker James Farrior early in March and the move really wasn't a surprise. In releasing Farrior the Steelers lost their defensive captain and signal caller and their 14 year mainstay at the BUCK linebacker position. The primary job of the BUCK linebacker in the Dick LeBeau 3-4 defense is to take on lead blockers and read and...

Colbert Says Sylvester Will Compete With Foote For Buck LB Spot

I posted the other day about the questions at the BUCK linebacker spot now that James Farrior has been released, and how Larry Foote would be the obvious choice to succeed Farrior initially. Stevenson Sylvester, who I really think is better suited for the MACK linebacker position based on his limited playing time the last two seasons, will apparently get a shot to compete against...

More Questions Asked About Moving Willie Colon To Guard

Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert is currently down in Florida at the NFL owners meeting and he has given us several new quotes to chew on after taking questions from the media. Colbert was asked once again about the possibility of right tackle Willie Colon moving to guard and he passed the buck so to speak to Head Coach Mike Tomlin. Colbert does still think that...

Mike Wallace: The receiver the Pittsburgh Steelers can’t lose

The speedy third-year receiver out of Mississippi, Mike Wallace, has made himself a very valuable asset to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. He presents a down-field threat each and every time that he steps onto the field. Just his on-field presence causes opposing defenses change the way in which they try to defend him. Defending him

Report: Steelers To Schedule Regina DE Akiem Hicks For Pre Draft Visit

Ed Bouchette from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports on Monday that the Pittsburgh Steelers are arranging for a pre draft visit for University of Regina defensive end Akiem Hicks. Hicks measured in at the NFL scouting combine at 6045 and weighed 318 pounds. He has long arms at 35 1/8 and sports a 10 1/4 hand size. His unofficial 40 yard dash time was 5.23 and he did 26 reps of 225...

Video: Baron Batch Now Past ACL Rehab Stage

Some good news to pass along today as Pittsburgh Steelers running back Baron Batch reports today via his personal blog that he is no longer rehabbing his torn ACL suffered late in training camp last year and he announces that he is about 90% right now. Batch tore the ACL in his left knee on August 10th after getting his foot caught on the field turf during an 11 on 11 drill. Batch...

Mendenhall situation could create interesting sub-plots

The Pittsburgh Steelers and General Manager Kevin Colbert are now claiming that Rashard Mendenhall may in fact see some action 2012. According to ESPN AFC North Insider Jamison Hensley, Colbert claims the Steelers will get Mendenhall some playing time if indeed he heals and rehabs as expected. Colbert believes running backs usually aren’t 100% for a full 12 months after tearing...

Kevin Colbert nixes the idea of Steelers released veterans returning

Kevin Colbert did a press conference down in Florida while at the NFL meetings.  He gave us a good bit of information during the press conference.  The biggest thing that came out of it is that the Steelers do not plan on having any of the released veterans return to the team.  Colbert has basically closed the door on that situation. “When we terminated those players we felt...

Will Cordy Glenn Fall to the Steelers?

By Jeremy Hritz Another week closer to the NFL Draft, and the needs of the Steelers have not changed. Last week, I posted the first edition of my mock draft, and without surprise, I have the Steelers selecting inside linebacker Dont’a Hightower with their first round selection. While my belief has not changed about the pick, it is a strong possibility that the Steelers will go...

Looks Like William Gay May Have Signed With Cardinals

In the world of Twitter some things may not seems as the appear, so you have to be careful with what you read, but judging by the last tweet by William Gay, it appears he has chosen to play for the Arizona Cardinals next season. It should be noted that Gay played his college ball at Louisville and they too are Cardinals. Gay made free agent visits to the Cardinals, Denver Broncos...

Gay signs with Arizona, Steelers secondary in good hands

The Arizona Cardinals aka Pittsburgh West made a move that everyone should have seen coming as soon as now former Steelers cornerback William Gay announced he was going for a visit.  Ken Whisenhunt loves to pick off players who previously wore the black ‘n gold, and why not? If you’re going to go after free agents, why not go after a team that’s always in the post season and...

Cardinals, CB William Gay agree to 2-year deal

The Arizona Cardinals and cornerback William Gay have agreed to a two-year deal. The team announced the agreement in a release Sunday. Gay spent the previous four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. He has appeared in all 80 regular-season games since entering the league, including 37 starts. Last season, he started 15 games...

For the Steelers, it’s time to let the young guys play

It’s been quite the interesting offseason for the Steelers. Cutting ties with long time veterans and fan favorites like Hines Ward, James Farrior, and Aaron Smith is never easy. Many so called experts seem to have it in their minds that the Steelers are in some sort of trouble heading into the 2012 season, and it’s not even into the summer yet. I’ve heard everything from drafting...

Steelers 2012 Potential First Round Draft Picks: Defense

On to the defensive side of the ball.  While the Steelers may look on the offensive line in the first round the defense is where the talent is in the later part of the first round. The Steelers have gone defense 3 of the last 5 years in the first round.  They picked up Ziggy Hood and Cameron Heyward to bring youth to the defensive line.  Both are already seeing significant playing...
