In their second preseason game of 2012, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos were plagued by turnovers in a 30-10 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.

Manning and the first-string offense did account for all 10 of Denver’s points, but two interceptions, including one tipped at the line of scrimmage, slowed down the Broncos’ offensive productivity.

“I’m concerned about the tipped balls,” admitted KUSA Broncos TV commentator Ed McCaffrey.  A former wide receiver for the Broncos during their Super Bowl heydays, McCaffrey continued, “He’s had three tipped balls in two games. I think he’s really got to get his touch back.”

Known in the past for his bullet-like delivery and amazing spirals, Manning’s passing touch appeared to get more wobbly as the first half advanced. After at least three surgical procedures on his neck, Manning’s ability to handle fatigue and sacks is still an unknown.

Running back Lance Ball added a third turnover with a fumble on the team’s fourth possession.

But the two interceptions were significant. The second interception, a wobbly overthrow, was picked off by Jeron Johnson of the Seahawks.

“He just air mailed the intended receiver,” said KUSA announcer Dave Logan. "That’s two costly interceptions.”

One highlight for Manning and the Broncos was a successful 80-yard drive for a touchdown to end the first quarter. Running back Willis McGahee scored from the one yard line.

Manning, who sat out the second half, ended the game with 177 yards on 16 of 23 passing.  The Broncos have their next chance to fine tune the first-string offense when they host the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. Broncos’ fans and coaches will no doubt be looking for more touchdowns and fewer turnovers.
