The only player remaining from John Elway's last NFL game on January 31st, 1999 has signed with the Denver Broncos. LB Keith Brooking, who was a reserve rookie linebacker on the Atlanta Falcons in 1998, and played in Super Bowl XXXIII, signed with the Broncos on Monday.

Brooking will challenge for playing time at the outside linebacker spots. It's also been mentioned that Brooking wouldn't be against playing on special teams if need be.

With D.J. Williams being suspended the first six games, the Broncos were looking for help at the linebacker position. It just comes as a shock that the Broncos chose to sign the 36-year-old Brooking, rather than a young linebacker. Nonetheless, Brooking is a solid addition. Before being benched in 2011 for Sean Lee in Dallas, Brooking was one of the better linebackers in the league for a decade. He was a five-time Pro Bowler with the Falcons.

In the past several days alone, the Broncos have added solid veterans as replacements or fill-ins for injured/suspended veterans such as Jim Leonhard.

Brooking cannot begin practicing until Saturday under league rules.
