The Denver Broncos just announced that they have signed safety Jim Leonhard to a one-year deal. Leonhard had worked out for the Bills yesterday, and worked out for the Broncos today. Denver wasted no time in signing the eight-year veteran to a contract, in the wake of announcing that starting safety Quinton Carter will miss the first two preseason games with hamstring and knee injuries.

Leonhard entered the NFL in 2005 as a college free agent with the Buffalo Bills. He played for the Bills until 2007, where he then signed with the Ravens to play one year in 2008, before playing for the Jets from 2009-2011. He had been a starter for the Jets the past three seasons, before suffereing a serious knee injury vs. the Chiefs towards the end of last season. He underwent knee surgery last year.

At 5'8", Leonhard is the Broncos' shortest player. Leonhard is a quality player with loads of starting experience. Alongside Mike Adams, he is easily Denver's most experienced safety. The signing of Leonhard has to make you wonder how serious, and how concerned the Broncos are of Carter's injury. Only time will tell just how serious Carter's injury is, and just when he'll make his return to the field for the Broncos.
