It’s 2006 again. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning appear to be on a crash course. Both quarterbacked arguably the best teams in the league (the Broncos and Patriots ranked 2nd and 3rd in the NFL in DVOA, but I don’t trust #1 Seattle on the road). Both are MVP candidates. Peyton Manning is currently viewed as the favorite, but I think that’s both undeserved and beneficial to the Patriots. I’ll go into the former here and the latter in New England’s write up. The Patriots and Broncos played back in week 5 and the Patriots got a pretty convincing 10 point win, Denver’s biggest of the season. The Broncos also lost to Atlanta and Houston early on the season and as a result they are just 2-3 on the season against playoff teams. The Broncos have won 11 in a row since the New England loss, but only 2 of them (Cincinnati and Baltimore) came against teams with a record of .500 or better. I think it’s clear that the Broncos are a better team than the one that started the season out 2-3, but I don’...

The rule that started a dynasty may be removed after this season

It was 12 years ago that the last NFL dynasty began. It was a cold and snowy night in New England, and Tom Brady appeared to have literally dropped the ball on the Patriots magical season. Charles Woodson had just come from the edge and knocked the ball out of Brady’s grasp after he pulled back a pass attempt and the Raiders recovered the ball with and prepared to run the clock...

Tom Brady talks playoffs, Ray Lewis

The days leading up to the NFL playoffs are filled with analysis, forecasts, breakdowns, and various mental masturbations in anticipation of the games that will decide the participants in the Super Bowl. Fans can, and will, hang on every word of their favorite players. New England Patriots fans heard from their favorite quarterback today, as Tom Brady met the media. He touched on...

Rodgers shares his MVP pick

Aaron Rodgers has won NFL MVP during his career. He weighed in with his selection for this season's MVP, and it might surprise you.

Manning has made all of the Broncos better

John Elway insisted that every one of the Denver Broncos was better the second Peyton Manning put his signature on that nearly $100 million contract last spring. Indeed, all have prospered from the arrival of the meticulous quarterback whose work ethic generated, as coach John Fox also predicted, a lifting of all boats. While Manning was turning what began as a season of mystery...

Tom Brady: 'I always enjoy beating the Ravens'

Since Ray Lewis announced his pending retirement yesterday, the Ravens have been all over the news. Bill Belichick hurled praise at the 17-year linebacker yesterday and today was Tom Brady's turn.CSNNE:"He was -- he still is an incredible player and a competitor," said the Patriots' quarterback before Thursday's practice. "Like I said, I know so many people...

Bill Belichick, Tom Brady Each One of a Kind, Meaning Patriots Fans Shouldn’t Waste Time Looking Ahead

Editor’s note: Each day during the week of Dec. 31, NESN.com will feature content based on key events from Robert Kraft’s tenure as owner of the Patriots. “Krafting a Legacy” will examine how the Patriots got to where they are today following Kraft’s purchase of the team. All good things must come to an end. So must all great things, which Patriots fans will someday learn...

Patriots Took Bye Week to Fix Themselves Before Moving on to Opponent (Video)

The bye week can be a complicated one for NFL teams. With no opponent to prepare for, practice becomes much different. For the Patriots this week, they worked on themselves. And despite a 12-4 record, they apparently had a lot to work on. Tom Brady told the media on Thursday the team was given a packet on what they had to do better. Wide receiver Deion Branch also mentioned that...

Atlanta Falcons: Wild Card Round Power Rankings (#5)

I’d like to start this off by saying the argument that Matt Ryan can’t go deep into the playoffs because he’s never won a playoff game is ridiculous. Peyton Manning was once 0-3 in the playoffs and he went on to win a Super Bowl. Plus, two of Ryan’s playoff losses came against eventual Super Bowl Champs. Finally, it’s just 3 games. It doesn’t really mean much. However...

Florida International has hired former Illinois coach Ron Turner to take over its football program. FIU director of sports and entertainment Pete Garcia says Turner signed a five-year contract Thursday night, with a base salary of $500,000 annually. A news conference with Turner was being scheduled for Friday afternoon. Turner replaces Mario Cristobal, who was fired last month...
