For nearly a decade Ethan Albright locked up the long snapper position.  He lasted four head coaches, and when his contract was up at the end of last season, he was not re-signed.

The Redskins then brought in Nick Sundberg, in hopes of getting younger at that position.  Through the first two weeks of training camp, he was noticeably “missing” his mark.

How bad was it?  When a kicker goes 8-12 on field goal drills with no defenses to kick against, there is obvious room for concern.

So with that said, the Redskins brought in James Dearth.  Dearth was formally with the Jets and is a 10-year veteran.

“You know, you feel good about veterans,” Danny Smith said, Redskins special teams coach, “but I’m not opposed to a rookie if he can do it. All we did was establish competition at the position and we’ll keep the best guy.”
