Derek Anderson flipped out on a reporter who asked him why he was laughing on the sideline as the Arizona Cardinals were getting blown out by the San Francisco 49ers last night.

I don’t really care if Anderson was laughing or not. The Cardinals were getting rocked by a slightly better, but still ******, team and it’s not as if they had any real shot at the playoffs. Even if they did, they’d get roasted in the wildcard. This season is a lost cause. People who think athletes really care as much as fans do need to step into the world that is reality.

On a sidenote, I see a lot of ranting and raving about changing the playoff structure since it is likely that an 8-8 or possibly 7-9 team from the NFC west will get in via division title while a 10-6 or 9-7 team will be left out as a wild-card contender.

Look, the system freaking works. Every now and then, you will have a team get shafted. The Patriots were left out with an 11 win season a few years ago. It happens. No system is full proof. But this notion of scrapping the divisions and taking the top six teams based on record is foolish. Division titles have significance and make division rivalries relevant.

Sure, there will be a year like this year but nine times out of ten, the system works.
