While coach Andy Reid continues to mull over the Eagles’ quarterback situation, one key player went to bat for the incumbent.

Appearing on Mike and Mike in the Morning, wide receiver DeSean Jackson alluded that Michael Vick  — not rookie Nick Foles — is the team’s starting signal-caller.

“As far as I know right now, Michael Vick is going to be the quarterback,” Jackson said, via ProFootballTalk.com. “I haven’t heard of changes or anything like that, so we’re still going with the plan.”

Many factors have contributed to Philadelphia’s 3-4 record, most notably Vick’s ugly habit of turning the ball over. Jackson contends Vick is not the sole problem, and in fact remains among the “elite” at his position.

“You can’t ever blame it on one man,” Jackson said. “There’s been turnovers and things like that, but as far as Michael Vick and what he’s capable of doing, I think he’s still an elite quarterback.”

His second point is debatable; elite quarterbacks don’t commit turnovers at an alarmingly high rate. His first point, though, is entirely true. Football’s a team sport and there are 52 other players on the active roster.

Cliche aside, the Eagles’ most glaring problem appears to be its defense. Even after issuing coordinator Juan Castillo an in-season pink slip, the unit continues to allow big plays and scoring opportunities. (Need proof?)

But this is the NFL, where a struggling starting quarterback is persona non grata, especially in a tough media market. Vick is being paid and treated like a superstar, but isn’t nearly performing like one.

Until that fact changes — if it does at all — there will undoubtedly be a changing of the guard.
