Due to the University of Washington having not graduated yet, Desmond Trufant has been absent from the start of the Falcons organized team activities (OTAs). That changed today as Trufant was in town and participated with the team.
OTAs are especially important for rookies as it's their first taste of the big leagues and a chance to get comfortable with their team, the surroundings, the playbook and the increased competition. Finally getting Trufant into camp is important for the Falcons because he, along with fellow rookie Robert Alford (who has already been at OTAs), will be asked to contribute early and often for the Falcons this season.
Cornerback will be a very interesting position to watch during camp and pre-season as Trufant, Alford and Robert McClain will all be fighting for playing time. With the schedule that the Falcons have, and the great QBs we will be facing, it's pivotal that Trufant comes in and contributes significantly as a rookie.
Mike Smith updated the status of a couple of other rookies on Tuesday. He said TE Levine Toilolo would be in town on Wednesday but Stansly Maponga would not be ready to go until the start of training camp due to an injury.
