CBS will broadcast the Super Bowl February 3rd, starting with pre-kick coverage (coin flip, National Anthem) at 6 PM, but you can start your day off with Super Bowl coverage before noon on the network. CBS will air seven hours of pregame coverage this year. Coverage begins at 11 AM with the Road to the Super Bowl, the yearly look at the NFL season produced by NFL Films. At noon, CBS will air New Orleans: Let the Good Times Roll, a look at this year's host city of New Orleans, hosted by musician Wynton Marsalis. At 1 PM, CBS will unveil Phil Simms' All-Iron Team: Super Bowl edition, with Simms and Jim Nantz taking a look at some of Simms' favorite moments and memories from the Super Bowl, and will feature interviews with Bill Belichick, John Elway, David Tyree, and Sean Payton among others. The show will also feature the first reunion between Leon Lett and Don Beebe, who were involved in one of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history. Finally, once 2 PM rolls around, the convention pregame show will begin. The Super Bowl Today will be a four hour pregame marathon, live from three sites in New Orleans (Jackson Square, Champions Square, Louisiana Superdome) and will feature the usual NFL Today crew of James Brown, Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Shannon Sharpe, and Bill Cowher, along with Jason La Canfora, Lesley Visser, Solomon Wilcots, and Steve Tasker. I have no idea what they're going to talk about for four hours, but there will likely be a huge amount of human interest pieces and awkward celebrity interaction. After the game ends, Super Bowl Today Post Game Show will air on CBS Sports Network, and will probably end up being the highest rated program for the year on the network.  Looking at all this Super Bowl coverage, you might think it's overkill. By the nature of the beast, it always is overkill. But keep in mind, the Super Bowl is the highest rated and most viewed timeslot in television, and that Americans eat up football with a spoon. It's not as if CBS would be airing anything else all day anyway, so why not go all-in with Super Bowl coverage? [Fang's Bites]
