With the NFL scouting combine in the books, we’re flush in Mock Draft season — and the Detroit Lions could have an incredible amount of options when they come on the clock at No. 5. What will they do there? And how will they use the five other picks they currently hold? The folks over at MockOne.net have given yours truly the reins as the Lions’ “general manager” during their second mock draft of the offseason. Their unique setups pulls 32 Twitter users together (most of them NFL writers, in one capacity or another) and distributes one team to each. You can follow all the action here and I’ll update the masses on my activity with the Lions’ picks — especially since trades are allowed — on Twitter @ChrisBurke_SI. Or you can follow all Detroit’s picks below … Round 1 (pick 5): Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M Things got a little weird at the top of the draft, and the Lions benefited. The first four picks: Geno Smith, Ziggy Ansah, Barkevious Mingo and Lane Johnson. That left me with a choice between Joeckel, Eric Fisher, Dee Milliner, Jarvis Jones, Bjoern Werner and so on. Plus, multiple trade offers surfaced, which would have allowed the Lions to slide down in Round 1 and add multiple picks. In the end, I couldn’t let Joeckel pass — he was No. 1 overall on my board, and with Gosder Cherulis headed out of town and Jeff Backus contemplating retirement, Joeckel fit. Pair him with Riley Reiff and the Lions have their bookend tackles for the next several seasons.
