Detroit Lions (1-0) at San Francisco 49ers (1-0) Both of these teams were in my overrated group heading into the season. The idea with the overrated/underrated teams was to bet the underrated teams and against the overrated teams until the odds makers caught up or I was proven wrong. Detroit didn’t prove me wrong as they barely eked out a come from behind win at home against the Rams, helping me nail my pick of the week, but the 49ers proved me wrong last week, pulling the upset victory in Green Bay. In fact, of all of my preseason predictions, that may be the one I end up being most wrong on. This doesn’t bother me too much, as I was 5-2 last week on games involved underrated or overrated teams, but it does force me to make adjustments. I don’t think it’s really fair to say that the 49ers are on overrated team anymore, but it is fair to say that about the Lions. In order to improve on their win total, the Lions would have to improve their win total for the 4th straight season. In t...

San Francisco 49ers vs. Detroit Lions: Week 2 Preview and Predictions

The San Francisco 49ers will encounter another very strong offensive team when they line up against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The 49ers, who defeated the favored Green Bay Packers last week, will look to add on to their already terrifying array of accolades shown in the Packers win by knocking off Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford and the Lions in the Candlestick Park home...

2012 Week Two IDP Linebacker Rankings- Is Patrick Willis Still Ranked in the Top-5?

Well folks, week one is in the books. Now it is on to week two. There were plenty of surprises and the rankings have shifted a little bit. That being said, do not panic. If you own a stud and they did not perform, calm down and start them again. Do not panic. I will say it again: Do Not Panic! Over the course of the year the studs will perform. The season is a marathon and not...

Matthew Stafford looks dapper in Van Heusen ad

The self-admitted “casual dresser” now has a reason to clean up on occasion – a company is going to pay him to do it.  Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has agreed to appear in a marketing campaign entitled “Institute of Style” for Van Heusen.  The campaign will be featured in print, television, POP and digital advertisements and will soon be found on the NFL Network...

Lions guard Sims prepared all year for 49ers matchup

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Detroit Lions offensive guard Rob Sims has been pointing to Sundays matchup against San Francisco defensive tackle Justin Smith since the day the NFL schedule was released. It is one of the main reasons why Sims, in his seventh year in the NFL, gained about 15 pounds during the off-season. Sims couldnt handle Smith a year ago in the 49ers' 25-19 victory in...

Lions' Calvin Johnson misses practice

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson did not practice on Wednesday because of a foot injury, according to the team. Head coach Jim Schwartz wouldn't say much on the injury. The injury doesn't sound serious, according to team reporter Tim Twentyman, who says Megatron appeared to be fine. "Let's put it this way. I didn't notice anything," he tweeted...

Akers surprised self with 63-yard field goal

David Akers' mouth fell open and his eyes popped as he threw his arms into the air in both celebration and disbelief. Somehow, a field goal from 63 yards out had gone in - after bouncing off the crossbar and through the uprights. Moments later, San Francisco's spot-on kicker was mobbed by teammates as the 49ers headed into halftime of last week's season-opening victory...

49ers' turnover mentality begins with 'Takeaway Thursdays'

The 49ers have only played one game and already there's a controversy in the locker room. Linebacker NaVorro Bowman said on "Takeaway Thursdays," where the defense emphasizes interceptions and fumbles, that the defense can create seven or eight in one afternoon. Quarterback Alex Smith, who just beat Steve Young's record with 185 straight completions without an...

Calvin Johnson Returns To Practice Thursday

Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports that receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice for the Lions on Thursday. Johnson missed Wednesday's practice while tending to an injured foot.Fantasy Spin:Johnson is still listed as questionable but we'd be very surprised if coach Jim Schwartz held him out of Sunday night's primetime matchup against San Francisco. Megatron tallied...

How the Detroit Lions Rate: Rounding up Week One's NFL Power Rankings

The Detroit Lions dominated last year's power rankings, often times placing within the top five and top 10 at several points during the year. This year, they start the season a bit underrated on the periphery of the top 10. A tough comeback win against the underrated St. Louis Rams won't do much to inspire confidence with cynical writers, so the Lions are reeling a...

Lolo Jones Denies Rumor That She's Dating Ndamukong Suh, Jokes Super Bowl Could Change Things

Lolo Jones and Ndamukong Suh are close friends. Just not that close. Jones on Thursday flat-out denied a rumor that surfaced earlier in the week. MediaTakeout.com had claimed that Jones is dating Suh, but that apparently isn't the case. "We are not currently dating," Jones told ESPN.com. "However, if the Lions win the Super Bowl and he wants to use the ring to...

Know Your Enemy - Lions vs. 49ers

LIONS vs. 49ers (Sept 16 8:20 PM ET) Could the 49ers look any better in Week 1? I do no think so, as they beat the Packers in Green Bay and they looked fantastic on both sides of the ball. Alex Smith outplayed Aaron Rodgers and the 49ers may have an offense that may stack up with their stacked defense. The Lions won their season opener and while Matt Stafford passed for 355...

Kid Rock’s AWFUL Detroit Lions anthem (video)

Sports songs are just usually terrible. Think of Prince’s Minnesota Vikings song, Scott Stapp’s Florida Marlins anthem. Just two of many examples. Kid Rock has represented his hometown Detroit Lions with…well you just have to play it after the jump to endure the awfulness. Paul M.
