Detroit Lions' Kalif Raymond Worries How Much Ben Johnson Sleeps
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has such a strong work ethic that one of his players is concerned just how much he sleeps in the evening.

Kalif Raymond, who is among the players on the roster respected for his work ethic, expressed to reporters that he hopes that Johnson, a potential future NFL head coach, gets some sort of rest.

"I think the biggest thing with B.J. is you don't worry about his work ethic" Raymond explained. "I'm worried about how much he sleeps at night, because he thinks so much. He's got so much imagination, so many things going, so much film, so much study. I'm like, as long as at some point you can turn your brain off and you get some sleep. Because I be worried about him because he's a hard worker. He kind of sets a standard for even us as players about what hard work looks like."

Sitting alone after offensive drives

On the sidelines, it has been observed that the talented offensive play-caller tends to sit alone following the conclusion of offensive series.

In an emotional game, Johnson prefers to calm down prior to addressing the roster about what occurred during the previous series.

"I can’t give away all my secrets," Johnson expressed. "No, I take a little bit of time, within a drive. Sometimes I can get a little emotional -- either way, highs and lows. So before I talk to anybody, I just want to make sure that I’m seeing that series as it unfolded and not necessarily a reaction that I might’ve had, good play or bad play. But it’s to collect my thought for the next series. Are they doing anything that I wasn’t expecting? Certainly, during the preseason, I kind of keep a distance and let the coaches coach. I become a little bit more active during the regular season though in terms of talking to any position group.”

Briefly

Chiefs coach Andy Reid understands the challenge that the Lions will bring, given how Dan Campbell and the coaching staff prepares their players for success.

"We look forward to this challenge, this is a big, big challenge for us," Reid explained, via Arrowhead Report. "They finished absolutely on fire, they play aggressive football. Dan has done a great job up there with his guys, so I know we’ve got to really have a great week of preparation going forward. Between Aaron and Ben, they’ve got good coordinators, both their schemes are good on both sides of the ball."
