Week two brings a big challenge in San Francisco, as the Detroit Lions prepare to do battle with the 49ers in a rematch from last season. There's a few injuries to be concerned about where Detroit is concerned. Here's the latest on all the dinged up Lions, and news from the opposition as Sunday Night Football prepares to land on the left coast.

On the Detroit Lions injury front, its two steps forward and two steps back. Though Chris Houston is feeling better, Bill Bentley hasn't been cleared to play and has missed practice, and Louis Delmas is likely it sit out on Sunday as well. Additionally, Corey Williams missed practice with a sore knee, and Lawrence Jackson returned after nursing a calf injury. —Detroit Free Press

Calvin Johnson, on the other hand, returned to practice on Thursday after skipping Wednesday. These midweek injuries are usual for Johnson, given his physical style on the field, writes Stephania Bell.  He looks like a good bet to go on Sunday night, despite having a bit of a scare earlier this week. —ESPN

Here's two tidbits from the other side. The 49ers have their second tall order in as many weeks, going up against Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson a week after seeing Aaron Rodgers, James Jones and Greg Jennings. San Francisco knows they'll need all hands on deck to key on Johnson if they want to win, opines Eric Branch. Branch also writes that Vernon Davis is thrilled to have other options around him opening up the field —San Francisco Chronicle

Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle found that Jim Harbaugh actually agrees with what I wrote earlier this week. He's avoided the handshake question all week long, and says that the game overshadows the incident. —San Francisco Chronicle
