Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester is apparently open to a “fresh start” and is not considering retirement.
“I’m going to try to get two or three more years in,” Hester said, per Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. “I think I have that much left in me. At the same time, I think I do need a fresh start.“
Following the regular season, Hester told reporters that he would consider retirement after the Bears parted ways with head coach Lovie Smith.
Hester will almost certainly see his role in the team’s offense diminish now that they have hired a new head coach, so there’s actually a decent chance that the Bears could look to either trade Hester in the coming months or even cut him loose.
It’s hard to say what kind of interest there will be in the 30-year-old kicker returner, but he could be right that a change of scenery could be best for both parties.
