Injuries to the 49ers' defensive front have taken its toll over the last few weeks, which could expedite the arrivals of Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial. The two rookies participated in their first practices this week and have gotten good reviews from Jim Harbaugh and their teammates.

Report: 49ers doctor under criminal investigation at time of death

Back on Wednesday the 49ers learned of the passing of their team doctor, Daniel Garza, who had been found dead in his home. He was only 43. Garza also had success as a researcher of concussions and brain trauma as a professor of orthopedic surgery and emergency medicine at Stanford. At the time, the cause of death was not immediately available. Now we’re learning that the coroner’s...

San Francisco 49ers activate their fifth round draft pick from NFI list

The San Francisco 49ers have officially made the call for their 53rd roster spot. The team announced they activated rookie defensive tackle Quinton Dial from the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list. Dial underwent surgery on a turf toe injury shortly after the end of his college career, and was placed on the NFI list at the start of training camp. He […]

Colin Kaepernick must find other options

Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers haven’t had the greatest start to their 2013 campaign, but over the next four weeks there are no excuses. At home for the Titans and Jaguars, followed by the bye, they then travel to play the Panthers. All winnable games for Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers. Watching Kaepernick this season it seems he has taken a step backward instead...

49ers: Defensive Line “Dropping Like Flies”

After the devastating loss of (NT) Ian Williams, the 49ers have been struggling to stop the “run” up the gut. William’s replacement (NT) Glenn Dorsey has done a wonderful job covering up the running lanes at center. As of this (2013-2014) season, Dorsey is ranked 26th against the run as an interior lineman (+2 sacks). Regrettably, the 5-year veteran sustained an inconvenient...

San Francisco 49ers: Week 7 @ Tennessee Titans

The San Francisco 49ers try to win their fourth straight game and keep pace with the Seahawks as they travel to Tennessee  and face the Titans at 1:05 on FOX.  The key for the 49ers will remain with to establish the running game and continue to create turnovers against a team in the Titans that doesn’t turn the ball over very ofter.  Jake Locker is expected to return at quarterback...

San Francisco 49ers: Injuries force others to step up

Injuries are part of any sport, especially football. The San Francisco 49ers have been victimized, like quite a few other Super Bowl contenders, by injuries to some of their key players and backups. One position in particular that is the cause of most concern right now is the defensive line, specifically anybody not named Justin Smith. Niner rookie Defensive Lineman Tank Carradine...

Patrick Willis to play in home state for first time in NFL career

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis will play in his home state of Tennessee for the first time in his seven-year NFL career. “It’s going to be fun,” the six-time Pro Bowler said to the team’s website. “It’s going to be a blessing. Nothing would be better than leaving there with a win and that’s our ultimate goal.” Willis attended Central High School in...

LB Patrick Willis playing through pain to get the job done: 'I'd be lying if I said I felt A-plus out there'

San Francisco 49ers LB Patrick Willis' groin is not enough to keep him from playing against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Willis is still recovering from a broken bone in his right hand he sustained in training camp, however, he intends to block out the pain for the second straight week after missing the previous two games.

49ers activate Quinton Dial to assist depleted defensive line

San Francisco has had a rough go of it this year in the injury department. Defensive tackle Ian Williams broke his ankle in the 49ers’ week two loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Defensive end Aldon Smith is out indefinitely after entering rehab for alcohol abuse following a second DUI arrest and has pending gun charges. Ray McDonald has a banged up bicep and has missed practice...

Jim Harbaugh says Titans are good at 'lawn-mowering' footballs?

Jim Harbuagh is one of the most entertaining, if not strange, coaches in the NFL. He proved that yet again on Thursday. The 49ers’ head coach spoke with the Tennessee media on Thursday to talk about the Titans, who the Niners will visit on Sunday. During the call, Harbaugh came out with more of his usual oddities when describing the Titans’ tenacious defense. “They’re the...

49ers' production at tight end goes beyond Davis

(Eds: Adds details, quotes.) By CRAIG MASSEI Associated Press A big part of the San Francisco 49ers' offense the past few seasons will be playing against them Sunday for the Tennessee Titans. But an emerging San Francisco attack appears to be absorbing the loss of Delanie Walker well at the tight end position, and it's not just the exploits of starter Vernon Davis. Rookie...

San Francsco 49ers: Colin Kaepernick And Vernon Davis Building Chemistry

The 2013 season has been an interesting one for Colin Kaepernick. One thing that has carried over from the last few games of his dynamic 2012 season is his connection to Vernon Davis. The two have hooked up for six touchdowns on the year so far. There were a lot of questions about the chemistry between these two star players. At this point, those questions can be put to rest. Davis...

49ers’ injury report: Justin Smith and Ray McDonald listed as questionable

The San Francisco 49ers’ may lack depth on their defensive line this weekend against the Tennessee Titans, according to their official web page. Defensive linemen Justin Smith (shoulder), Ray McDonald (biceps), and Glenn Dorsey (hamstring) are all listed as questionable. Missing any one of these players would be a significant blow to the 49ers’ front seven but losing several...

Willis To Play Through Pain Again

San Francisco 49ers All-Pro inside linebacker Patrick Willis returned from a groin injury last week, but wasn't quite himself. He's not 100 percent, but says it won't preventing him from playing at a high level come Sunday's game in Tennessee.

San Francisco 49ers at Tennessee Titans: 2013 Week 7 NFL Pick

San Francisco 49ers (4-2) at Tennessee Titans (3-3) I have legitimate concerns about the 49ers’ offense. Their defense is more than fine once again, as opponents move the chains at a 70% rate. Even without Aldon Smith, they have plenty of talent defensively. However, offensively it’s clear that Colin Kaepernick is not the same as he was last season, at least thus far. As a result...
