If the Philadelphia Eagles plan on competing in 2012 they will need to get their money’s worth from corner Nnamdi Asomugha. Asomugha, originally a first round pick back in 2003, was the big splash the Eagles needed during free agency signing him to a five-year, $60 million dollar contract as he left the Oakland Raiders. It was a defensive backfield that was supposed to hold up against the furious passing attack of the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, but instead they crumbled early and often. Asomugha was brought in to lock down on the opponents’ top receiver and there were a number of times that didn’t happen. Players like Victor Cruz and Larry Fitzgerald torched the Eagles secondary. Was it the expectations of being one of the top corner’s or was it a defense being run that didn’t suit the type of player he was? Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo had him playing in zone schemes instead of the man coverage that earned him the $60 million. That zone scheme also caused a glarin...

The Philadelphia Eagles just completed their first organized team activities (OTAs) of the 2012 offseason and are preparing for their second this week. The practices are, as head coach Andy Reid says, an opportunity for the team to “knock off some of the rust” accumulated from the offseason and provide an early glimpse into who may be a factor during the season. The importance...

Report: Vick event sparks backlash

A seemingly innocuous visit from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick caused such a backlash for a Toyota dealership in Henderson, Nev., that it was forced to shut down the promotional page on its website. Vick, who was convicted of dogfighting charges in 2007, was in town for a youth football camp and stopped by the dealership to sign autographs and meet with fans Friday...

Mike Kafka is “running away” with Eagles’ backup quarterback job

A day after it was reported that Mike Kafka has noticeably improved arm strength in OTAs for the Eagles, it is being reported by the Courier-Post that Kafka is “running away” with the Eagles’ backup quarterback job. While Kafka is impressing, Edwards is struggling to make routine throws. There’s a reason he didn’t attempt a pass last season. If Kafka continues like this...

Is Linebacker DeMeco Ryans All The Eagles Need?

The steal that brought DeMeco Ryans to Philadelphia felt too good to be true. Every Eagles fan—every NFL fan—will tell you the glaring hole in Philadelphia’s defense was the linebackers. In fact, if five more third down runs were stopped in the entirety of last season, the Birds would have made the playoffs. But every team has a similar sob story. But was bringing in Ryans...

Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football Projections

QB Michael Vick (Philadelphia) I’m projecting a down year across the board for Vick once again. He proved last year that his performance against Washington in 2010 was a fluke. I expect him to regress back to close to typical Atlanta passing stats, where he never went over 3000 yards passing, only once threw more than 16 touchdowns and averaged 13 interceptions per game from 2004...

Jeff Garcia Would ‘Pay to Play’ for Eagles Again

With Michael Vick, Mike Kafka, Trent Edwards and Nick Foles already in the fold for the Philadelphia Eagles, it is doubtful that they will be in the market for a backup QB this season.
