Did Titans tip their hand about a potential free-agent signing?

It’s no secret the Tennessee Titans brought in free-agent right tackle George Fant for a workout over the weekend; however, the 31-year-old lineman left town without agreeing to a deal.

That made things all the more confusing when a photo of Fant showing up Monday for the start of Titans training camp made its way to the team’s official website and began making the rounds on social media.

The photo was deleted from the Titans website approximately 20 minutes later. Head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters during his Monday news conference that there was nothing to report regarding Fant’s status.

The Titans are in desperate need of offensive line help with starting right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season due to gambling violations. Fant, who’s started 60 games over his six-year NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets, is one of the top remaining free agents still available.

In eight games, including seven starts, Fant allowed 27 pressures, 14 hurries and five sacks for the Jets last season. He had surrendered three or fewer sacks each of the previous four seasons, however, and allowed 25 or fewer pressures in three of them.

With Petit-Frere sidelined until Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, Vrabel mentioned Jamarco Jones, Jaelyn Duncan, Andrew Rupcich and John Ojukwu as internal replacements to fill in at right tackle.
