The people in Cleveland are very excited today about their Cleveland Browns making steps in the right direction. Who can blame them? It has been so long since the Browns have won three games in a row you would think they won the super bowl. Now people are saying what a great job rookie first round Trent Richardson is doing as the Browns number one over-all pick in the NFL draft. Some are so excited that Richardson has tied the greatest Brown of all time according to the history books in touch-downs.  But did he? Did he really tie the record that Brown has held since 1957? You could say yes, but you should be saying yes with an asterisk next to it. Why, because when Jim Brown set the record of 9 rushing touchdowns in 1957 the Cleveland Browns only played 12 games in a season, yesterday was the Cleveland Browns 13th game on the season. So sure you can say T-Rich just tied the record, but you should be saying it took him one extra game to do it. When making a comparison from modern-day...

Reports continue to link Nick Saban to the Cleveland Browns

Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Globe reported NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi could become the next general manager of the Cleveland Browns if Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner decide to switch from Tom Heckert this season. The report also stated Heckert may force his way out if Banner assumes the personnel controls like he did as president of the Philadelphia Eagles. Lombardi...

Gordon has serious shot at 1000 yard year

Rookie Browns receiver Josh Gordon, a.k.a. Gordo, is having one of the best rookie seasons in Browns history with 34 catches, 646 yards, and 5 touchdowns. With four games remaining, Gordo needs to average 89 receiving yards per game to hit the millennium mark. Time after time this year, Gordon has blazed 1  by the defense to haul in a Weeden bomb for a long gain. His big play ability...

Rookies playing a huge role in Browns' streak

BEREA A big reason the Browns won their third game win in a row was due to the contributions of rookies. Pat Shurmur was asked if it was the confidence theyve gained or the opportunity to show their skill set. Its probably a combination of both, Shurmur said. When they have the confidence and opportunity and when those two meet they have the chance (to make plays). There was probably...

Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy through 13 games in 2012 and 2011, respectively

Here’s a look at Brandon Weeden’s stats as Browns quarterback through 13 games in 2012 next to Colt McCoy’s in the same job through 13 games in 2011 (click images to enlarge). Note that Colt had just one fewer completion in the exact same number of attempts (!!!), for a total of 304 fewer yards than Weeden, but one more touchdown and four fewer interceptions, with a slightly...

Browns handle Chiefs easily, 30-7

That's three in a row for the Cleveland Browns, as they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 30-7, highlighted by rookie Travis Benjamin's 93-yard punt-return for a TD. The win makes it one more win than last season's total record. It also marks their longest winning streak since 2009. Cleveland QB Brandon Weeden went 17/30, 217 YDS, but without a TD pass, instead handing...

The return of the Cleveland Browns

5-8.   Nothing exciting about that record in the NFL. 5-8 usually means a season that’s been defined by “what ifs”, probably some calls for the backup quarterback to rally the troops, and maybe even some calls for the head coach’s, well, head.   If someone told you that the Cleveland Browns were 5-8, you’d [...]

WFNY Podcast – 2012-12-11 – Craig and Jacob talk Browns, Tribe and the Elf on the Shelf

It’s like a WFNY episode of “The Real World.” “What happens when people stop being polite and start getting real? A guy who grew up with Christmas and a guy who grew up Hanukkah discuss their holidays to gain a better understanding of each other and also unite in the universal creepiness of The Elf on the Shelf.” Anyway, that was only the first couple minutes. Then we...
