Found November 07, 2012 on State of the Texans:
The Texans came out a little slow after their bye week but they were able to step their game up enough to beat the Buffalo Bills 21-9. This moves the Texans to 7-1 and allows them to maintain their lead in the AFC and AFC South standings. Positives: 0 The number of touchdowns the Texans allowed on Sunday. The Bills got into the red zone three times but only got three field goals to show for it. On the other hand, the Texans scored touchdowns on two of their three red zone trips. +1 The Texans’ turnover differential. They didn’t turn the ball over which allowed them to still build a lead while not playing their best. Also, the fumble that Whitney Mercilus forced in the fourth quarter ended any chance of a comeback for the Bills and sealed the game for the Texans. 118 The number of receiving yards Andre Johnson had in the game. Although he didn’t score a touchdown, this was his second game of the season with over 100 yards. He also looked better after the catch than he has in previous weeks. 26 The length of Keshawn Martin’s longest punt return of the afternoon. It set the Texans up in great field position and led to a touchdown. The Texans weren’t getting that kind of production from punt returner Trindon Holliday before he was released. Negatives: 0% Shayne Graham’s field goal percentage for the game. He had his only attempt, a 46-yarder, blocked in the second quarter. This was only his second miss of the year and his first miss since the first game of the season. Gary Kubiak also chose to go for it on fourth down instead of letting Graham try a 47 yarder later in the game. 3.7 The Texans’ average yards per rush play. This is compared to 4.9 for the Bills. Arian Foster averaged over 4 yards a carry, but Justin Forsett did not have near as much success with 6 carries for only 7 yards. Stats from:

Ryan Fitzpatrick sees the writing on the wall, QB's future uncertain

Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has some soul searching to do. The admiration of Bills fans and being glowingly looked upon as the man with the 'Fitz-magic' are nothing but a distant memory. Last year's hot start might as well have happened a hundred years ago. It doesn't matter at all. And when GM Buddy Nix talks about a need to draft a franchise QB, Fitzpatrick...

His pocket awareness an...

Texans Name Three New Captains

Today the Houston Texans announced that the team named three new captains to the team. J.J. Watt, Chris Myers and Shiloh Keo were all named as new captains for the Texans at the halfway point of the season. J.J. Watt has been a terror to opposing offenses and has been a superstar in the making, and now Watt has been rewarded by his teammates for what he has brought to the field for...

Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans: Five Things We Learned

Here are five things we can take away from this week's game:The Texans Can Win DirtyThe Bills hung around way too long in a game they should have been crushed in. A lot of credit goes to Buffalo, but most goes to the Texans offense who came out very flat. In the end they were able to string some yards together and win by a wide margin and that is what good teams do-- stay in...

Stevie Johnson has a thigh contusion, Mark Anderson suffers a setback

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson suffered a thigh contusion during this past Sunday’s game against the Texans. Bills head coach Chan Gailey believes he’ll be able to play this coming Sunday. “He may not be able to practice Wednesday, but he should be okay for this weekend,” said Gailey. Gailey denied that defense end Mario Williams was playing with a torn ligament...

Is Ryan Fitzpatrick's career on the line vs Patriots?

SI:"I understand what happens in the NFL. I understand that it's a performance-based business,'' Fitzpatrick said Wednesday, noting the two had a long chat in the GM's office. "For quarterbacks, you have to win games or else.''That now becomes the challenge for the eighth-year NFL journeyman and former seventh-round draft pick, who remains upbeat...

Bills vs. Texans: Bills takeaways from 21-9 loss

The Monday after a loss is something resembling the apocalypse around NFL facilities. For the fans, it resembles something similar to the Saturday morning hangover.  Even worse is a loss where the fans, players, coaches, owners, corporate sponsors etc. can see the Promised Land known as the playoffs slipping away. Make no mistake about it, this cloud of darkness hung ominously...

Houston Texans: Week 10 NFL Power Rankings (#2)

Last week: 2 (+0) The Texans didn’t put much effort into their game against the Bills, though they still won by 12, so I’m not going to put much effort into this write up. They’ll win the AFC’s top seed with ease regardless of what happens. They really only play 2 teams with close to their talent level the rest of the way, Chicago (this week) and New England, and even if...

Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn’t have the strongest or most accurate arm in the league.  He isn’t the fastest runner and he doesn’t even win that many games.  But he’s the only NFL starting quarterback who owns a diploma from Harvard.  ”The League” on FX played off of Fitzpatrick’s nerdiness in his brief appearance on the show that will appear tonight...

Field Goals: Midseason awards

Last month I offered up team awards after the first quarter of the season. Ironically, those awards came immediately after the offensive and defensive unraveling against New England. The halfway point awards will be presented the week prior to another showdown with New England. Things haven’t changed much since the New England loss. The run defense continues to struggle...

Birth of daughter may hold out Tillman

Charles Tillman's daughter could be born this weekend, which could cause a leading candidate for NFC Defensive Player of the Year to miss Sunday's contest against the Houston Texans.
