The story making the rounds today is about Thomas Dimitroff wanting Tony Gonzalez to return for one more season. Duh! Who wouldn't want a Hall of Famer who is still playing at a very high level to play one more year? Mike Smith and Thomas Dimitroff both joined the Buck and Kincade show separately this afternoon to talk about Tony Gonzalez and the Atlanta Falcons. You can go to the audio vault of the 680 the fan website and listen or download the conversations and if you don't want to do that then here are my key takeaways from the interviews.... Thomas Dimitroff: - Sees good depth at OL and DL in the upcoming draft and thinks the RB and Safety positions also look strong - Not banking on seeing the last of Tony Gonzalez yet. - Pleased with how Peter Konz came along. Thought he did a nice job down the stretch. - Has a good relationship with Sam Baker’s agents and hopefully they can get a deal worked out and get him back. - Thinks about playoff loss often and what they need to change that would be the difference in getting to the Super Bowl. - Falcons have seven picks but are shooting for two compensatory picks from losing Curtis Lofton and Eric Weems.  Nine (maybe more) picks and Thomas is looking forward to drafting across the board.   Mike Smith: - The 49ers made plays at end of the game and Falcons didn’t and that’s what it’s all about but does believe the Falcons are progressing and have sustainability. - Ever since Tony Gonzalez said he was 95% sure he was retiring, he’s been hoping for the 5%. He has spoke with Tony recently and will talk again in the next three to six weeks. If you look at the tape, that’s a guy that can definitely play next year and probably for a couple of years after that. - Feels very good about the roster they’ve put together.  Thinks they will be better in the second year with coordinators. Will start next week putting together 2013 offensive and defensive schemes. - Feels team has matured. Calls out Matt Ryan, Sam Baker and Julio Jones as examples.
