After soundly beating the Redskins 23-7 in Week 13 of the regularseason, the New York Giants were unquestionably the best team in theNFC at 11-1. But two days before the victory in D.C., things suddenlychanged for the G-Men. On November 28, wide receiver Plaxico Burress brought a loadedweapon into a nightclub and instead of being responsible with it, he accidentally shot himself in the leg and forced the Giants to end his season by placing him on the non-football injury list. The Giants never really recovered after that. They had beat theRedskins so convincingly that it gave the players and coaches theopportunity to say, "See? We don't need him." And the public bought itbecause they had witnessed Eli Manning throw for 305 yards without hisstar receiver being on the field.(Read the rest after the jump.)

If the Giants had burress against the Eagles, who knows, thats hindsight talk. But All I know is that it is a different game when he is out there. He blocks downfield which Hixon didnt do at all, there is less D players in the box, other WR are open and he is almost guaranteed to score in the redzone. I am a Giants fan and I was unsure to who was going to win because of the Burress Effect. As for this team chemistry nonsense, it sure did good for us in the last month. Good job Eagles as much as I felt that the Giants lost the game more than the Eagles won it but the Giants did that last year against the Cowgirls. So all is fair game.
Yeah, receiver is important but it's overrated compared to how it's general perceived by the masses - especially when you compare it to other positions on the football field.
