The Miami Dolphins just completed their 4th straight losing season.  Disappointing?  Yes.  Unexpected? No.  The Dolphins season was disappointing to all of us that love the team.  BUT, it’s hard to say that the 7-9 campaign was all that unexpected.  After all, the Dolphins were coming off of a 6-10 season last year, brought in a rookie head coach and started a rookie quarterback for 16 games.  So should we be surprised that the Dolphins once again fell short of the .500 mark? Photo Courtesy of Dolphins.com Before the season started, many ‘experts’ predicted that the Dolphins would take a step back and finish with 4 or 5 wins.  They surpassed those low expectations, but ultimately fell short of making the postseason once again.  Before the season began, we ran through every Dolphins game in this post and came out with a 7-9 record, finishing 2-4 in the AFC East.  That’s exactly how the Dolphins finished the season….I wish we were wrong with those predictions! The Gap is Real The Dolphins in 2012 continued to show that they are still a mediocre team.  Finishing 7-9 says that, but a look behind the numbers shows even more.  There is still a gap between the Dolphins and the upper echelon teams in the NFL.  The Dolphins finished 5-4 against teams that failed to reach the postseason, but just 2-5 against teams that still have football left to play.  The ‘gap’ was never more evident than on Sunday when the Dolphins were shut out by the Patriots 28-0.  The Patriots have dominated the AFC East for a decade and if the Dolphins want to make up ground, it must begin this offseason.  The Patriots are simply a more talented team than the Dolphins in every aspect of the game.  The Dolphins weak WR corps couldn’t get open against the Pats DBs….The Dolphins OL couldn’t block the Patriots DL…..The Dolphins DBs couldn’t stay with the Patriots TEs and WRs. The Dolphins don’t need a Tom Brady, but they’ll need Ryan Tannehill to improve this offseason.  They need to close that gap.  The Dolphins will also need Jeff Ireland to work some magic with that $50 mil in cap room and draft pick ammunition.  I know, I don’t have a lot of faith in that, but it is what it is at this point.  The Dolphins must use this offseason as a time to stockpile talented players.  This offseason can help close the gap between the Dolphins and the good teams in the NFL, without a practice snap taking place.  (cont’d on page 2, click below)

Dolphins must make Brian Hartline their off season priority

When Brian Hartline was drafted in 2009, he fell into a mix with newly acquired Brandon Marshall, Greg Camarillo, Davone Bess, and pass catching tight end Anthony Fasano.  Fast forward three seasons and Brian Hartline is the main pass catcher for the Miami Dolphins after posting career numbers of 74 receptions and 1,083 yards receiving.  Marshall was traded for draft...

Miami Dolphins 2012 season review

A guy who wears No. 17 was the 17th quarterback to start for Miami since Dan Marino retired following the 1999 season. The Dolphins hope they wont need an 18th for a while. The 2012 season was all about rookie Ryan Tannehills development. And while theres not as much excitement in Miami as in rookie-quarterback cities Indianapolis, Washington and Seattle, what Tannehill did still...

Cheerleaders of the Day: The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders from Back in 2011

They’ve always been one of my favorite cheerleading squads in the NFL.  And there’s simply no changing my mind this year.  Despite the Miami Dolphins being a mediocre football team for a relatively long time now, you can’t say mediocre when it comes to their cheerleaders. From community service to events to calendars to plain old making the fans happy, these women deserve...

Dolphins' Martin confident on either side of O-line

Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin started all 16 games of his rookie season. So first things first, he deserves credit for that.Martin wasn't stellar in his inaugural year, but he certainly didn't make a bad name for himself. He started his first 11 games at right tackle and moved to the left side when veteran Jake Long, who could be a goner after this season...

Black Monday NFL: Miami Dolphins Expected To Retain GM Jeff Ireland For One More Season

Although many people feel as he has been given more than enough opportunities to win, the Miami Dolphins are apparently going to give GM Jeff Ireland one more season to turn things around. After finishing 7-9, the Dolphins failed to make the playoffs once again, although some projected them to win just four or five games in 2012 with a new head coach and a rookie first round quarterback...

No big turnovers on horizon for Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- The most dramatic difference for the Miami Dolphins this offseason will be what won't change: the coach or quarterback. The Dolphins courted a new coach in January each of the past two years and have perennially been in the market for an upgrade at QB, but both jobs are settled now. Coach Joe Philbin and quarterback Ryan Tannehill are certain to be back...
