With the season almost here, we are stating to see something that is not what one would normally see out of a Miami Dolphins team.

What we are starting to see from the coaching staff all the way down to the bottom of the roster is a confidence, or “swagger” that this team has not shown on a regular basis for a long time.

We saw it out of Tony Sparano when he stated that this team will contend for the AFC East this year.

We saw it just recently when Vontae Davis stated that himself and Sean Smith were the best cornerback tandem in the league.

Well, while Sparano may be right in that the Dolphins just might put up a fight for the AFC East title, Davis may have been overstepping his boundaries a little.

Don’t get me wrong, Davis and Smith are a promising duo, and in a few years they have a very good chance at being the best in the league, but after only two years in the NFL, and only combining for two interceptions last year, both Davis and Smith are going to have to step up their game this season before they get into the conversation as the beat tandem.

Apparently Darelle Revis feels the same way, that Davis and Smith have a couple years to put in before they can start saying those type of things. But Revis also came out and said that he told Davis to be more confident. So to hear that Davis and Smith are getting advice from the top corner in the game, shows that they want to be the best.

With Revis saying that the Jets boast the best secondary in the same quote, it adds a little fuel to the fire when the Dolphins and Jets meet for the first time this season. It will be a duel of which secondary out performs the other. Which tandem outperforms the other. And which secondary can frustrate the opposing quarterback more.

So while Vontae Davis can say that he and Smith are the best tandem in the league, they now have to go out and show the world that they can perform on a high level week in and week out, which I believe they can.
