The Miami Dolphins head to Indianapolis on Sunday for an important matchup with the Colts. The Dolphins will look to improve to 5-3 and move into a tie with the Patriots atop the AFC East.  To do so, the Dolphins will have to play as aggressively and emotionally as they did against the trash talking Jets last week.  The Dolphins cannot afford a let down after beating their hated rivals.  To top it off, the Dolphins might not have their starting quarterback available for Sunday’s game. This game, which many thought would be one of the snoozer games in week 9, turns out to be a pretty important one in the AFC playoff picture.  Yes, this will only be each team’s 8th game, but if you look at the playoff standings, this game could have implications down the line.  The winner of this game will move to 5-3 and will hold the head to head tie breaker against the other team, when playoff spots are awarded in January.  Here’s our gameplan for what the Dolphins must do to come away with the victory: Bend but don’t break The Colts are lead by rookie quarterback Andrew Luck, and yet they rank #8 in the NFL in yards per game (373 ypg).  That’s an impressive statistic until you realize that the Colts only rank #24 in points per game (19.4 ppg).  So the Colts are racking up yards, but they are not translating them into points.  The Dolphins defense, by contrast, ranks #22 in the NFL in yards allowed (363 ypg), BUT ranks #5 in the NFL in points allowed (only 18.0 ppg). From these numbers I think we can expect the Colts to move the ball on the Dolphins defense.  The key will be to force the Colts to kick field goals instead of scoring touchdowns.  The Dolphins are stout against the run, which will force Andrew Luck into 3rd and long opportunities.  The Dolphins defense is among the best in the NFL on 3rd downs and that must continue if they want to win.  (cont’d on page 2, click below) Pages: 1 2

Sports Network: Colts try their Luck against Dolphins

The Sports Network's story is as much about the similarities of two unlikely playoff contenders as it is a game preview.  Those similarities lie more in the their situations than in their playing style.  Both teams were expected by many to be AFC bottom feeders, competing for the number one over all pick in April's draft.  Yet here they are, each with their rookie quarterback...

Dolphins like Tannehill more than Colts' Luck

DAVIE, Fla. -- The "Suck for Luck" campaign was in full force a year ago. The Miami Dolphins were 0-7 and in position to land Andrew Luck with the top pick in the NFL draft. It didn't happen. The Dolphins suddenly turned matters around and finished 6-10. Indianapolis ended up with the highly touted quarterback. But the Dolphins have come out OK. They managed to get...

Dolphins visit Colts in battle of rookie QBs

With rookie quarterbacks and first-year coaches, the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins were thought to be two of the NFL's bigger rebuilding projects. Instead, they sit with surprising 4-3 records heading into a matchup that holds legitimate playoff implications Sunday in Indianapolis. Both teams are coming off road victories that put them over .500 for the first time since...

Key Matchups WK 8 - Dolphins.

After yet another close victory last weekend against the Titans, the Colts return home to welcome an equally surprising Dolphins team to Lucas Oil Stadium. The visit of Ryan Tannehill again pits Andrew Luck against a rookie counterpart, and (as is the case with Brandon Weeden) both quarterbacks have reason to lament the quality of receiver they're throwing to, so it should be...

Indianapolis Colts Week 9: Miami Dolphins

The Indianapolis Colts take the field at Lucas Oils Stadium Sunday to play their most meaningful game of the season to date against the Miami Dolphins. These two former AFC East rivals were predicted by most to be at, or close to, the bottom of the division standings. In a show of how unpredictable the NFL truly is, both teams are instead holding down the second place spot in their...

Dolphins game plan versus Colts

It's week nine of the NFL season and the Miami Dolphins take their three game winning streak to Indianapolis to take on the Colts in a game that was not expected to have much significance. However, those expectations are three months old and the matchup that was projected to decide which team would likely land the first overall pick in the 2013 draft now has...

AFC South Preview: Colts, Dolphins Hungry For Playoff Spot

Miami @ IndianapolisWhy Should I Care? The 4-3 Dolphins currently hold the fifth seed in the AFC. The 4-3 Colts, by way of what I bet is a very complex tie breaker, hold the sixth seed in the conference. These two teams have suddenly emerged as dark-horse playoff contenders. This matchup will decide who is able to hold on to that coveted playoff spot for at least one more week.By...

7 Questions for the Dolphins Game

Before the season began Greg Cowan and I had a long, lopsided debate about the potential this new era Colts team had for 2012. Statistics and prior history suggested somewhere between 3 and 6 wins. Anything more would be considered an abberation but my voice was somewhat quiet in comparison to Greg's booming insistance that the Colts could be a playoff team. While partly tongue...
