Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is ”hearing” that free agent LT Jake Long is looking to be paid $11 million annually in his next contract.
This figure would best the $9 million per year that Bengals RT Andre Smith is reportedly seeking.
The Dolphins were said to be willing to offer something closer to $6-7 million per year, so it seems likely there’s at least a decent chance that Long could be playing elsewhere next season.
Chicago has been mentioned as a speculative landing spot for Long, but they’ll have plenty of options to consider on the open market. They’d be best served shopping for value versus committing that kind of money to Long right away.
We have Long listed as the No. 18 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
