Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano indicated Tuesday that running back Reggie Bush would be his featured back, a role he never has held in the NFL.

When asked about Bush, Sparano told reporters, "I would think he's going to have the most touches and the most carries."

The Dolphins traded for the explosive but somewhat fragile Bush in the offseason in a backfield overhaul that included the selection of Daniel Thomas with their first-round pick and allowing veteran free agents Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams to leave.

Thomas has not fared well in his first preseason, placing more of a burden on Bush, a former Heisman Trophy winner who was used in spot duty during his first five seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

Bush never averaged more than 13 carries per game or rushed for more than 581 yards in any season with the Saints. He was used much more extensively as a pass catcher, averaging nearly 60 receptions per season, although his totals declined every year.

The Dolphins host Dallas in Thursday's preseason finale and open the season Sept. 12 vs. New England in a Monday night game.
