The Miami Dolphins released veteran running back Larry Johnson on Saturday. After signing with the club two weeks ago, Johnson was unable to secure a spot in the team's backfield despite rushing 12 times for 46 yards and a touchdown during the preseason. The 31-year-old Johnson has played just 16 games for three different teams over the last two seasons. He had 377 yards on 132 carries for the Kansas City Chiefs and 204 yards on 46 carries for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2009 and five carries for two yards for Washington last season. In 2005 and 2006, Johnson was one of the game's top running backs, eclipsing 1,700 yards each season for the Chiefs. But he had 752 carries in those two years and may have been overworked. In the offseason, the Dolphins allowed veterans Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown to leave via free agency.
