The Miami Dolphins added the CFL's "Most Outstanding Canadian Player" from last season by signing running back Jerome Messam, the Edmonton Journal reported. Edmonton Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman confirmed the 26-year-old Messam's move to the NFL. Reggie Bush figures to have some competition in the backfield next season with the Dolphins signing Jerome Messam. Yes, its true. Jeff Ireland (Dolphins general manager) phoned me late afternoon and said they had decided to offer Jerome a contract, but their proposal would not include a signing bonus, Tillman told the Journal late Saturday night. We werent positive that proposal would be accepted, but in the past couple of hours, Darren Gill, Jeromes agent, confirmed they had discussed the situation and would be accepting the offer from Miami. Obviously, Jerome departs with our best wishes and our focus immediately shifts to free agency as a terrific opportunity to improve our club in the coming days. Messam (6-3, 245) attended Graceland (Iowa) University. In 2011, he was the first Canadian running back in 12 seasons to rush for more than 1,000 yards.
