It’s early — too early, in fact, — but the Miami Dolphins’ playoff chances took a devastating blow on Saturday night. Tight end Dustin Keller, who was expected to start for Miami this season, suffered a brutal knee injury during the Dolphins’ 24-17 loss to the Texans on Saturday and is expected to miss the entire 2013 season. Keller tore the ACL, MCL and PCL and dislocated the knee cap in his right knee, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, after enduring a vicious hit by rookie D.J. Swearinger during the first half on Saturday. Keller, who spent his first five season with the Jets, signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Dolphins this offseason, opting for the short-term deal in hopes of cashing in even bigger next offseason. Now, the 28-year-old is in a much more dire predicament with his career potentially hanging in the balance. The Dolphins will now have to lean on 2012 third-round pick Michael Egnew a lot more than anticipated this season, as he and rookie Dion Sims will likely see extended action in the passing game.
