Heading into the 2013 season, many have speculated that Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman will not be re-signed after the season is over. A report also came out suggesting the Bucs were not fond of their starting quarterback but Freeman’s agent, Erik Burkhardt, would later debunk those reports. The Bucs are also on record saying they support their starting quarterback even after more speculation surfaced when the team drafted Mike Glennon in April. But even with all that, they still face questions regarding their fifth-year quarterback. After being asked about how important this year is for Freeman, general manager Mark Dominik showed support for his 25-year old quarterback. This is a big year for Josh Freeman. We’re excited about putting Carl Nicks and Davin Joseph back in front of him. Doug Martin going into his second year. Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams, and this year we brought in Kevin Ogletree who’s really shown up in a lot in this offseason program. We feel that we have a lot of pieces in front of Josh Freeman. Being in the second year in the system for him, with coach Sullivan and Greg Schiano as head coach, we’re excited of where that’s going and we have a lot of confidence in Josh Freeman. It’s no secret this is a big season for Josh Freeman. At the same ttime, it is also a big season for the entire team. While he is a big piece of the puzzle, there were a number of times last season where he played well enough for a win but the defense could not hold the opposition. With that said, I do agree with Dominik stating this is a big year for Freeman. But the Bucs general manager also stated this is a big year for the team. And that, I feel, is a more accurate statement.
