Donald Brown injured his knee and will require minor surgery that will cause him to miss 2-3 weeks. Robert Mathis will also miss 2-3 weeks after he sprained his knee.

Donald Brown had one of the better games of his career against the Packers last Sunday; the only problem is, he won't be able to follow that game up this week. After missing half of the 4th quarter, it was announced that Donald had a knee injury that forced him to miss some snaps. It didn't seem serious at first, and this kind of came out of nowhere, but it ended up being a pretty big deal in the end.

For now, Vick Ballard is the new starter. On paper this year, Ballard isn't the most impressive carrying a 2.0 yards per carry average. Im telling you though, the kid runs hard on every play and is patient. That's exactly what you need against the Jets and Browns. Also, on a side note, guess who predicted over and over again that Ballard would be the starter by midseason (although not the way I envisionned it). That's right, me! I pride myself around good predictions; it's cocky, but fun. Anyways, as I was saying before, Ballard will be starting, and most likely Delone Carter will be rotating in, having a similar role to what Ballard had when Brown was healthy. Finally, Mewelde Moore could also see some snaps in 3rd down situations.

Secondly, Robert Mathis sprained his knee against the Packers. Mathis tried to come back in, but just couldn't, the knee was hurting too much. Mathis was off to one of the best starts of his career recording 5 sacks in 4 games, which is one of the best in the NFL (average wise and total wise). Mathis continously got pressure on the QB and was a major reason was the Colts pass is alive and well for the first time in a couple of years.

With Mathis out, this gives underachiever Jerry Hughes another shot at proving himself. He had a few weeks to prove himself by replacing Dwight Freeney, but didn't exactly do a great job. He did get some sacks however, and he has shown improvement this year on defense, and on special teams. Hughes must be a menace inpass pressure, or the defense will have tough times stopping the Jets, Browns and Titans. Yes, I said it, they'll have a tough time stopping three of the worst teams in the league. If you don't have a good pass pressure, it makes it that much tougher for the pass defense.

It just seems like the Colts can never catch a break when it comes to injuries. It started with Bob Sanders about 6 years ago, and it hasn't stopped since. The Colts have to be the most injured team in the last 5 years. They just have key players get injured, game after game after game. It must suck for them.
