I feel like I’ve been in some form of twilight zone over the past week because I swear I’ve had the same conversation over and over. Perhaps the scariest part is that it wasn’t any twilight zone, it was reality and for every conversation I’ve had about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense it always ends the same way. This defense is just not that good right now. We can blame the scheme or the injuries or the lack of depth or the disappearing act made by a couple of first rounders in Cam Heyward and Ziggy Hood all we want. Fact is, the defense needs a makeover worse than any aging Hollywood starlet ever did. Read the comments in stories at the Trib or Post-Gazette from players and former players over the last several days and they all say the same thing. “Things have been the same since I got here” or “It doesn’t matter who you put in the positions the defense remains the same.” What is that thing they say about insanity? I love the arguments about how this defense annually ranks in the ...

How much will Rashard Mendenhall really help the Steelers rushing attack?

The Steelers running game is tied for last in the league through the first 3 weeks of the season (3 way tie with the Raiders and Titans). Pittsburgh is averaging just 2.6 yds per rush and has a combined pitiful 195 yds total rushing. If that doesn’t make you cringe as a Steeler fan, I don’t know what will. The offense hasn’t ranked that low in rushing in 62 years; one can only...

James Harrison really wants to play against Eagles

James Harrison took to twitter to pronounce "God willing, I will be playing Sunday against the eagles!"  He's been out for the team's 1-2 start after feeling discomfort from his August knee surgery. He reportedly had a "little bit of a setback" when he returned to practice last week, according to his agent Bill Parise, but the bye week cna be just...

Week 5 is a must win for the Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers get back to action following the bye week at home against the 3-1 Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburgh carries a 1-2 record with embarrassing loses to the Broncos and Raiders and the lone win coming at home over the Jets. Despite the losing record Ben Roethlisberger is having arguably his best start to a season to date. Ben has thrown for 904 yds 8 TD’s and...

Steelers Injury Report: Rashard Mendenhall, Troy Polamalu, James Harrison

Despite their 1-2 start to the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers could receive a significant boost this weekend on both sides of the football. Running back Rashard Mendenhall and linebacker James Harrison could make their season debuts for Pittsburgh, while safety Troy Polamalu could return from an injury that’s kept him out the past two weeks. Harrison and Polamalu...

Steelers’ Mendenhall Remains On Track To Return vs. Eagles…

Steelers’ Mendenhall Remains On Track To Return vs. Eagles - Rashard Mendenhall (knee) is still on track to make his 2012 debut against the Eagles in Week 5. Coach Mike Tomlin expects Mendenhall to practice in full this week and suit up Sunday. He didn’t discuss roles, but we’d expect Mendy to draw the start and work as the head of a committee with backup Isaac Redman. Jonathan...

Pittsburgh Steelers must improve running game to be successful after the bye week

This is going to be a quiet Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. With the 1-2 Pittsburgh Steelers on their bye week, many fans will get a long look at what the rest of the NFL has to offer. One thing they will like see during any game they may choose is a solid running game, something that has been lacking in the Steelers offensive attack throughout the first three weeks of the season...

Fantasy Football Injury News: Pittsburgh Steelers to start Rashard Mendenhall Week 5

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been waiting for RB Rashard Mendenhall to return to the lineup since the start of the season. They won’t have to wait much longer as the team expects to start Mendenhall in week five against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Steelers are hoping the infusion of Mendenhall back in the lineup will help to jump start a sagging rushing attack. Mendenhall will...

Steelers RB Mendenhall expected back this week

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall is expected to return from an ACL injury this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, reported Monday. The Steelers could use a healthy Mendenhall as they come off a bye averaging just 65 rushing yards a game and 2.6 yards per carry, both rank 31st in the NFL. Mendenhall sustained the knee injury during the final regular...

Are the Steelers really facing a must-win game against the Eagles?

It’s hard to imagine that our beloved Steelers are sitting at 1-2, and may be facing a must win situation this Sunday against the Eagles. It’s even harder to think that in week 5 you have a must win game period. The proverbial “there’s a lot of football left” adage does indeed still ring true, but digging yourself out of a potential 1-3 hole is not exactly confidence inspiring...

Rashard Mendenhall ready to return

Rashard Mendenhall (knee) is expected to make his season debut this Sunday against the Eagles. His health is far from a guarantee, which is why I am benching him in all leagues this week. That being said, he should be watched carefully this weekend, as his Steelers have plenty of juicy matchups ahead. After they host the Eagles, they only have three good run defenses left on the...

The Pittsburgh Steelers Are Faced With A Tough Task Against The Eagles Their Defense Has To Stop McCoy

The Steelers 1-2 face the Eagles 3-1 in what is sure to shape up as a defensive battle. The Pittsburgh defense needs to not only contain Michael Vick, they will have to try to stop LeSean McCoy. The Eagles running game can wear you down. McCoy has already gained rushed for 384 yards on 81 carries. McCoy has the ability to break one lose anytime, if the Pittsburgh Steelers are going...
