Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has been racking up yards and touchdowns over the last few weeks but there is something that bothers him. Martin has been nicknamed ‘Muscle Hamster.’
It is not the first time a professional athlete has taken exception to a nickname. While the nickname sounds like a compliment, Martin is not too fond of it.
“It has to be the worst nickname ever,” Martin told NFL AM on Tuesay. “I can’t shake it. It started in college, started back in Boise, with our linemen. I have a lot of bigger friends, and they’d call me the Muscle Hamster because of how much I could lift in the weight room.”
The 23-year-old Martin was the 31st overall pick in last April’s draft.
Tampa Bay is 4-4 this season after back-to-back wins against Minnesota and Oakland. They will play at Raymond James Stadium this Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers (4-4) have allowed only 84 yards per game on the ground.
