When Doug Martin went down with a shoulder injury on Sunday, all of Bucnation and the fantasy world went quiet. It was reported by several on Monday that the Buccaneers’ star running back may be lost for the season but Martin has offered a different take.
Via Fox Sports Florida, Martin (while on his radio show in Tampa) said he doesn’t think his injury will force him to sit out the rest of the season.
It’s day-by-day. We’ll take it week-by-week. Throughout this time, I’ve definitely got to get in the film room and brush up on anything I need to do to get better.
At first I was mad, and I was upset that it happened. It didn’t really hit me until we were taking off (from Atlanta). You can’t be mad for too long. … You can’t turn back time. I just have to take it day-by-day and week-by-week and wait until it gets better.
According to some media reports, a shoulder injury that requires surgery needs almost 12 weeks to rehab the muscles. If that is in fact true, then the chances of Martin returning goes away — along with his optimism.
