Draft expert predicts Giants will land No. 1 overall pick

After a dreadful 2-7 start and a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Daniel Jones, the New York Giants could continue to plummet and land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

On Friday, ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid predicted the Giants would go winless for the rest of the season.

"Jones is already out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, and this whole Giants team is flux with questions under center and plenty of injuries," wrote Reid. "According to ESPN's FPI,  the Giants have the eighth-hardest remaining strength of schedule and third-best chance to earn the No. 1 pick in April's Draft (25.5 percent)."

Giants backup QB Tyrod Taylor is on injured reserve (ribs). On Sunday, undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito will start against the Dallas Cowboys (5-3), and Matt Barkley will back him up. Neither is the answer.

Tankathon projects the Giants will have the third overall pick in the draft, within range to select a QB. Although Jones signed a four-year, $160M deal this offseason, New York could still move on from the 26-year-old, who posted a below-average 37.2 QBR in six games this season.

On Tuesday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter noted Giants general manager Joe Schoen recently scouted highly touted QB prospects Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) and Caleb Williams (Southern Cal) before Jones' injury.

The former first-round pick has yet to have surgery on his ACL. Per the Cleveland Clinic, it typically takes six to nine months to recover from the injury.

If New York takes a QB and Jones returns before the start of next season, the Giants should let the former Pro Bowler start a few games to boost his trade value and give their rookie passer time to develop.
