One of the most exciting times in professional football is finally here, the NFL combine. I know a lot of people don’t put too much stock into the combine because the talent isn’t running or doing any football activity in actual pads, but to me it’s a chance to at least be that “arm chair GM” that everyone starts to be at this time of the year. So i figured this would be something cool to do and to get a lot of feedback from our readers. And as far as I’m concerned, it is NEVER to early to start talking about the Redskins and what they might do in the upcoming April 25th draft. As we know the Skins gave up the “farm” to get Robert Griffin III so they are without a 1st round pick this year. But i think it won’t really affect the Skins that much because the team’s primary focus is on the defensive side of the ball this year where the draft is heavy on defensive players. Although Washington doesn’t have the 1st rounder, they still have 7 selections in this year’s draft because they acquired New England’s 5th round pick as a result of the Albert Haynesworth experiment and eventual trade. The Redskins’ picks are as follows: Round 2: 21st pick (51st overall) Round 3: 32nd pick (85th overall) Round 4: 22nd pick Round 5: 21st pick Round 5: 29th pick (From NE) Round 6: 23rd pick Round 7: 22nd pick So with that being said…here we go!…The Redskins are on the clock:   With the 51st overall pick the Washington Redskins select…. Eric Reid (FS) LSU Don’t let the whole Laron Landry deal sour you on LSU safties because this kid can flat out ball. A very smart player that can bring the “lumber” from the “woodshed” if he has to, Reid is 6’2 and 212 pounds but plays like he is 230. Eric has tremendous run stuffing skills and seems to have a niche for reading plays. With the Skins safety spots being a huge issue, look for them to really focus in on this position early. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1xQi0xfAeI Other FS options: Bacarri Rambo, Phillip Thomas   With the 85th overall pick the Washington Redskins select… Brennan Williams (OT) UNC The most athletic tackle in the draft this year. At 6’6 and 318 pounds he would be the prefect fit for a newly exciting Redskins offense. Great at sealing off the edge on screen plays and getting to the second level, Williams would be a cornerstone at right tackle for a very long time for the team. Other OT options: David Quessenberry, Ricky Wagner   With the 22nd pick in the 4th round the Washington Redskins select… Tyrann Mathieu (CB) LSU Surprise, surprise! its the HONEY BADGER! The Skins in my opinion would have the steal of the draft. Mathieu has had a lot of off the field problems , but is looking to prove that he can succeed at the need level. A first round talent, Tyrann is one of the most polished CB coming out in the draft this year. Mathieu has unbelievable ball skills and is not afraid to play physical with opposing wide receivers. Washington’s locker room would help a guy like Mathieu to become the player that everyone knows he can be.  Other CB options: Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Marc Anthony   With the 21st pick in the 5th round the Washington Redskins select… Duke Williams (SS) Nevada Speed, power and quickness…Williams is a very, very talented safety that has awesome range. At 5-11 and 201 lbs, Williams totaled 106 tackles (5 for a loss) and had 8 pass break ups over the 2012 year. Other SS options: Ray Ray Armstrong, Alonzo Tweedy   With the 29th pick in the 5th round (from NE) the Washington Redskins select… Jasper Collins (WR) Mount Union Following in the foot steps of wide outs like Cecil Shorts and the Redskins very own Pierre Garcon, Collins is looking to take it to the next step. Jasper has break neck speed and great hands which are certainly plusses when trying to make an NFL roster. Collins had a nice senior season with 92 receptions and 1,694 yards receiving. Other WR options: Conner Vernon, Tavarres King   With the 23rd overall pick in the 6th round, the Washington Redskins select… Steve Greer (ILB) UVA Skins add more linebacker depth with this pick. Greer has excellent tackling ability and will be learning from the best in London Fletcher, assuming he returns for another year. Other ILB options: Uona Kaveinga, Travis Brown   With the 22nd pick in the 7th round, the Washington Redskins select… Brandon McGee (CB) Miami McGee would fit in nice at nickel corner with the Skins. While not the fastest guy, Brandon has “ball hawk” instincts and the ability to make a tackle, something you need out of your corners. Other CB options: Will Davis, B.W. Webb   Well there you have it guys, please fee free to leave your thoughts/comments/suggestions below. There will more than likely be some changes in between now and draft day, including possibly trading for some more later picks. I will more than likely be putting together another mock draft the closer we get to draft day.
